Either way... Get ready. Nemo's coming back in a BIG way, to serious prominence in Disney's universe.

And I most definitely DON'T mean the clownfish.

The thinking internally is, this will be one of the new movie series that will take on "Pirates" type status.

Disney is focusing on a lot fewer pictures per year now, with much more allocated to most of those films. The mid-range (budget) movies are mostly history.

Can't tell you how I know, but this is not a rumor... it's happening right now. William, two things - you're going to be very embarrassed within just a few months, and you shouldn't comment on development based on what's in the IMDB. The IMDB doesn't list projects in development unless you have IMDB pro, which you must subscribe to, and even then, not unless the material has been SUBMITTED to them.

I have absolutely no interest in seeing a remake, prequel or sequel or anything any other kind of "quel" having to do with 20K.

It's a classic movie complete with state of the art special effects, for it's time, and anything new will just be another chase scene movie trying to make money on the imagination of a past generation rather than creating their own.

Well, given that New Line's also working on ITS version of 20K, you might get a lot more "Nemo" than you bargained for...

I am sick of all these people getting wealthy off the ideas of others. Show me some originality and I will be on the bandwagon. Stir up the same old garbage in a different package and I will walk away.

Making a movie based on a theme park attraction was a courageous thing to do and it paid off. Remaking a classic with new and flashy effects is a technical accomplishment but not something that requires any thought or something that will impress me. Been there, done that, don't care to do it again, as far as I am concerned.

    You mean like BATMAN BEGINS?

I'm very fond of the original 20K, but a good remake can be done, and it can be done well. With Disney doing fewer movies per year, they're really putting careful review over scripts. William's right in that this won't happen until it's really "ready" (unless New Line's movie is fast-tracked) but that time isn't that far away.

The key is in finding (again) the humanity in the characters, Nemo's central gripe and his history and brilliance. If a movie plumbs THESE issues, the technology will simply support what "could be" a great new version of this film.

It could also be pretty lousy. But after LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN, I think all of Hollywood has a great, though very expensive primer in how NOT to do "Captain Nemo."

Studios rarely make a big deal about projects they have in development. They're tracked by agencies and professional (subscriber only, and very pricey) online services. But they can zoom into production the second the script is "there" and the moment a good director (or actor) reads it and responds positively.

If the movie flops or if circumstances change forget about it.

Narnia was a huge hit and is perfect for the parks and last I heard even the vague bluesky concepts for narnia attractions are dead in the water.

For 20k, the movie would have to be a well made movie, catch the fancy of the public, and break all box office records to be considered for the parks...Its very unlikely.

The only way around this would be to build the attraction simultanously to the filming of the movie so that the ride/movie advertise each other.
