My feelings are that the dining plan has created two major issues:

First, it is almost impossible to get seating unless you book the full 180 days out, due to the high volume of people who would never spend the money on the restaurants and now can. I've heard complaints from both people who chose not to go on the plan (myself included), as well as from those who are on the plan that simply cannot get into the restaurants they want, if any at all, and feel that they have wasted their money by purchasing the plan.

Second, the quality, quantity and choices on the menu have been compromised by this plan.

Someone please tell me where I am right and wrong here.

Then again Disney likes 180 because it commits you to spend more because you know you have time to save money. You do know that Disney Dining is primarily a way to keep you in the park right?

I don't catergorize a success as something that has produced less menu, smaller portions and inabilty to get a reservation.

I would. Anything that would be beneficial for the moral overweight majority that frequent WDW is good enough for me too.

While offered for free I can see what a nightmare it causes but in the off seasons, meaning the free offer, I can't see it being a problem...Or maybe I am clueless about the whole thing....I have done it once under the freebie included and found it to be ok since we waited till getting there to make any plans regarding eating...My idea of a good time isn't about having to worry where we are going to eat dinner every night....Some people are into that type of scheduling...We aren't..Trust me, we didn't starve while using the plan on that one trip...In fact we ate rather well throughout the trip...I think it was an excellent value but yet we still spent more on the trip than we planned on....A lot more...There simply isn't a cheap trip to WDW.....
