Unless you're planning on eating at a table service restaurant every day, and ordering one of the most expensive (if not the most expensive) thing on the menu, it's hard to justify the expense of the 'free dining plan' as opposed to a 'discounted' hotel room, which gives you the flexibility to eat whatever and wherever you want Personally, I'd rather Disney had more reasonable hotel prices so they didn't need to have year-round discounts running, but I know that's not their business plan. I don't really understand the logic for how they price (and then discount) their rooms, but it doesn't seem to be changing any time soon

I prefer the Tables in Wonderland Discount (available to Florida Residents, DVC Members and AP holders). You spend $100 on the Discount Pass and then receive 20% off all food AND beverage purchases at a very wide range of Disney dining locations. You can get to the break-even point pretty quickly, especially if you like to end your evening (like I do) with a stop by a favored resort lounge before turning in for the night.

We do get the dining plan, and would love it if it were free, the kids are always back in school by the time it rolls around and we only go to WDW when we can spend a lot of time there since we are from Seattle.
