Needless to say money ran low and on top of us at the non striking store picking up the slack we also got money taken out of our checks every week to cover the expenses that included giving it to people who were on the lines who as far as I saw were sitting on beach chairs in front of the store BBQing. I will say they did take a vote on that one, the people that voted were on the lines and had time to actually go down and vote on it because they did not have to work insane hours. I think the strike is wishful thinking. It worked for grocery stores I guess but there is talk from some CMs that said they would have no problem being a scab if the situation would arise. But then again these are the same people complaining about presenteeism and the fact that one thing Disney wants to do is take away vacation time for all CRs and having a 'two teir" system with people falling under either CR or RPT.

And considering the benefits the company wants to take away from us the possibility of a strike is there. And this is not just with the UFCW. The Teamsters, SEIU and UFCW were in combined talks with Disney when Disney's negotiating team walked out of the negotiating meetings.

Disney will only have a problem if the attractions CM's strike. Training takes longer to hire bandaid workers. (The fact that I heard this means the thought of strike has been on someones mind somewhere.) Personally, im suprised more CM's aren't upset about them raising the prices on food throughout the park, giviing AP's a bigger discount (Now 15% for Prem) without giving the CM's a bigger discount. ("A" CM's still get 20%.) 20% vs 15%? What happened to the "Disney Difference?"

And as noted else where the park is now advertising out in the Riverside areas. No one thought there was going to be a strike in '84. Conditions now are worst. Disneyland is becoming the new Walmart when it comes to benefits. And that is of a major concern to your experenced Cast Members.

Fortunately, the public property where they would be allowed to picket is now much farther from the Main Entrances and Guest areas of the Resort. When there was a strike in '84 they could picket right next to the CM lot, which they still could now but not many Guests would see them. Also, they could picket right outside of the parking area and the structure now makes that a LOT harder since that area is all private property. The Resort expansion has changed the dynamics of a visible picket line.
