I know it's really all to reel in more money but I'm kind of wondering, if Disney has released a 1-disc Platinum/Special/Gold etc etc Edition of a DVD (say, the Dumbo "Big Top" Edition, the 101 Dalmatians Limited Edition?, the Sword in the Stone Disney Gold Classic Collection, etc... .. then is there a chance they'd eventually release a 2-disc version of the same movie? From what I understand, Fox and the Hound alone has a 25th Anniversary Edition and a Disney Gold Classic Collection, both of them being 1-disc. The main thing is that I collect the 2-disc DVDs. Not like, in addition to the movies I already have. But they're my own personal movie collection and it's nice to know that when I'm off and living by myself (I'm still a bit of a youngster) I'll have my beautiful Disney DVD collection to watch whenever I please. Maybe that's a bit pathetic, but still. I just want to know if it's a bad idea for me to avoid buying all the 1-disc ones that claim to be some sort of special edition DVD if they're not. Should I just stick with the 2-discs? That's what I've been doing... P.S. I realize that they really aren't MUCH better quality or anything but I don't own much Disney movies to begin with. It's just, if I WERE to own them, I'd rather get a 2-disc DVD than a VHS.

I think you will see 2 disk DVD sets of almost every movie Disney has ever made unless and until a new format comes out. (For example, DVD vs. VHS) Disney *really* needs a new format to keep raking in the dough. Heck if a new format doesn't come out soon enough, in 5 to 7 years or so you could easily start seeing THREE disk sets! Until then, if the 2 disk set doesn't come out soon enough for your liking you can always go on ebay and buy someone's used 1 disk set.

So it's all way more complicated than it has any right to be. I'll be sticking with DVD until it's no longer an option.

In your lifetime I'm sure they will re-release Cars and Ratatouille many many times in many many different formats. In the meantime, you'll usually be able to get a copy off the resale market (ebay and so on). So, if you want to watch it, buy it.

Much more so than the switch from VHS to DVD was, since that just required buying the player. Also, I'm waiting it out until the format "war" is over. Disney sided with Blu-Ray, but Dreamworks and Paramount sided with HD-DVD...and that's no fun if you have to buy two formats and two players! I'll keep my old DVD collection until the dust settles, and maybe something else will rise from the ashes, like downloads or something?

I, too, love 2-disc sets. But I have to wonder if the neglected films like Sword in the Stone will ever get more than a token pat on the head. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the multi-disc version.
