By the time I left property tonight the busses were starting to return to service so it was about a total of 3 hrs there were no busses running but I've heard everything was pretty close if not back to 100% service by park closings...

Apparently during a routine check a suspicious package was found on the undercarriage of a bus which got the bomb squad called in and which ceased operation of the busses till they could be individually checked...

It seemed (though I didn't honestly hear too much) that guests while frustrated understood and accepted it (though I also was at the WLodge which had boat access so wasn't completely isolated)

Course kudos goes out to the transportation team, and the cast at DAK and the Waterparks which all ended up with extra hours tonight as they were kept open later...

It would definately stink to be stuck outside a closed park with no way of getting anywhere, so it's thoughtful of them to leave them open a little longer, even if the guests don't really want to be there any more that day.

I am hoping this was not a test run for those wanting to do harm to test the vulnerabilities in WDW security.

If it was a test run, then hopefully WDW did such a good job that those wanting to do harm will look for an easier target because it appears WDW did an excellent job once the package was found.

Aren't all of the busses already equipped with GPS for the spiels and sign boards? I would imagine that as long as they went to the expense to equip the busses with that gear, that they'd also use it to log what the busses were doing (even if they don't report back in real time) so that they could better plan utilization.

In any event, if it's something that someone at Disney did but it didn't get communicated as widely as it should, you can be sure it will never see the light of day as far as the public is concerned. In addition to typical secrecy when it comes to things that are embarrassing, there's no doubt that "security" will be used as an excuse to simply not discuss it.

While it's great that WDW reacted in a way that was very appropriate, I still have to ask myself a couple questions.

Why in the world nobody at the maintainence barn was aware of an experimental device that had been installed in 1998? Also I have to ask myself how it could have been confused for a gps?
