Nights felt chilly to us, probably not chilly to most others.) DS16 was celebrating his 16th birthday on Thursday so we had lunch at the Blue Bayou, his favorite. We have decided that we enjoy the gumbo more than the Monte Cristos (aka Monte Criscos). The gumbo was fantastic. The Monte Cristos were so greasy that I thought I could feel my arteries hardening as I ate. Once again we agreed it's the ambiance that is so special here. Even so, we never hesitate to return whenever possible! We took it easy on Thursday. After our whirlwind FP day the day before, our feet needed a break. So we enjoyed the parks at a more leisurely pace. Hubby saw that the Columbia had sailed the day before and wanted to jump aboard but alas, not running on Thursdays. He hasn't been on this ship since he was a kid and immediately made this his priority when he saw it circling Tom Sawyer Island the day before. Yes I said it. TOM SAWYER ISLAND. heehee. It will always be Tom Sawyer Island to me. My kids think of it as Pirate Lair or something like that. ;-) For some reason Columbia does not sail on Thursdays so we held out hope that it would be on the move the next day, which was our final day. The CM manning the launch dock said it was not operating at all, it was a park guest that corrected her and said it runs on Fridays. (She said, It does?) Much of Thursday kind of blurs in my memory. We did pretty much all of our favorites many times. DD10 convinced me to try out Maliboomer, a first time for both of us for this attraction. I have ridden similar rides at other parks so I knew what to expect. She's a little daredevil so she loved it. Me, on the other hand... did not ride it again. I had no idea that it would turn my spine into an accordion. When it shot us up in the air, my vertebrae all crunched together in a most unpleasant manner. Then the vertebrae all separated on the way down. I don't think it's normal for a person to feel every vertebrae like that and my back has never been the same since. Why did this never happen to me on similar rides at other parks? Am I now officially "too old"? The ride is not that big of a deal... I used to be able to handle so much more than this. Has my warrantee run out? :-( Coming up: Part 3

I vowed as a child and on through my 30's that I'd never be too old to ride any ride. Well...I sure can't do the Scrambler anymore. I cannot ride a simple swing, for Pete's sake, without getting dizzy. But luckily, when it comes to DL, I'm good to go. I've done the Maliboomer once, and will do it again. I think I had too much fat cushioning my spine to bug it. The Sunwheel of Death literally scares me close to death, but I'll do it again. As long as Mr Love is there....I'm okay. He smiles indulgently and I feel safer somehow. I'm REALLY enjoying your trip report. We'll have to meet someday. GDW is having a Phoenix meet on June 21, but I don't know where you guys are based. It would be nice to have your DS16 meet our soon to be DD16. But, her heart lies firmly with another boy, so your DS is safe from her evil clutches. And (I feel I'm talking too much here) DH feels the same way about the Columbia (and the Mark Twain and the shooting gallery) so I know how much that must've meant to your DH. xoxo
