Also, there is optional trip insurance available with terms spelled out, but what is not spelled out is what the cancellation policy of the underlying booking is in the absence of trip insurance (and a covered reason for cancellation). Are you just stuck with the full cost of the booking from the moment you pay for it, regardless of the timing? It seems odd to me that they would expect people to give a credit card and pay in full in advance without disclosing this information.

If I remember rightly, you have to pay full costs if you cancel less than 56 days in advance. If you cannot commit, you are probably better off staying at the Holiday Inn which runs like the US hotels and offers a range - cheap rooms that are immovable, and slightly more expensive rooms that are flexible and can be cancelled up to 24 hours in advance.

I still think that it would be wise for them to disclose what these are prior to you committing to purchase. <<< If I remember rightly, you have to pay full costs if you cancel less than 56 days in advance. >>> Well, that sucks. It probably means that I'll never end up staying on-property at one of the Disney hotels then, as there's no way I can be sure of things 56 days out, and my reasons for cancellation aren't always cut-and-dried enough to fit into cancellation insurance (unless their second level insurance includes a "without cause" provision, effectively meaning that you're purchasing the right to cancel at additional cost, but I don't know if it does, because they only disclose the insurance terms for the first level of insurance). On the other hand, since I keep hearing about how there are severe occupancy and over-capacity problems at the DLRP hotels, and since the prices don't seem particularly cheap (that is, they're not just discounting to the point where the rooms fill up) it would seem that it would not be difficult to book at the last minute. <<< If you cannot commit, you are probably better off staying at the Holiday Inn which runs like the US hotels and offers a range - cheap rooms that are immovable, and slightly more expensive rooms that are flexible and can be cancelled up to 24 hours in advance. >>> I already kind of figured this out on my own, but thanks for the tip. The Holiday Inn looks particularly inviting as I've discovered that I have enough points for a free night!

DLP does not tend to discount unless you are an AP holder. Sometimes you can get in last minute. Other times, it's booked solid. It depends whether the schools are out or not, and now that parents are being put in jail in the UK for taking their little ones out, it's getting really bad.
