But it's all an "incremental" thing.

It's a slow evolution where the park's interest will continue to improve ... But there's still PLENTY areas that need to be redone.

It's like someone with an ugly face. They're getting a nose job ... but it's going to take a lot more before this person is pretty enough for the 63 dollar admission price.

Although your theory is nice, adding rides will increase the capacity of the park, and will ultimately increase the number of guests in the park at any given moment.

The "new" Tomorrowland (1998) was reported to cost $100 million. Pooh (2003), $30 million. Did the attendance increase accordingly in the years in the years following their openings? Nope.

"Wouldn't it be great to get attendance figures from '95 and '05 and compare them?"

    Here you go:

    1995 14.1 million
    1996 15
    1997 14.3
    1998 13.7
    1999 13.5
    2000 13.9
    2001 12.4
    2002 12.7
    2003 12.7
    2004 13.3
    2005 14.5

None of those (other than Rocket Rods which didn't last long enough for it to matter) ever bring many people to the park. They may be nice distractions while your there, but I would be surprised if people paid to get into the park with HISTA as their number one attraction to see. Spending a lot of money on the whole land doesn't mean a lot of they don't add anything of real substance. Indy was reported at a $100 million price tag as well, and a much higher percentage of that remains today than the new TL.

I still don't see how Pooh could have possibly boosted attendance. It was just a bad plan from the top down to build that in hopes of crowds. While it is a nice attraction, that's all. It doesn't really draw me to that side of the park at all. If I'm over there anyway, I might hop on since there is rarely a line, but I wouldn't really go out of my way to see it. There is just something about the classic style darkrides that just doesn't seem to be a big enough draw to pull people into the park or a certain area of the park (except for Roger Rabbit).

And just out of curiosity, where did those numbers come from? I did a quick search on the internet and couldn't find anything, so I was a little surprised to see something so concrete.

I hadn't realized that '96 had higher attendance that '95. I can't remember but how much of the 40th ran into the following year?

Also I'm amazed that AB reckoned that there were more people at the park for the 50th than during the 40th. Maybe it is my mind tainting history but I always remember every day of the 40th being a zoo.

Perhaps so in general Hans, but there are some noteworthy exceptions.

As you mentioned, Indy gave DL a huge boost (granted the effect can only be a year or two, of course long term you must keep adding).

They were quite clear in Tokyo about mentioning Pooh as a HUGE influence on attendance when it came out.

And I daresay that, regarding Tower, DCA might be the exception to the rule. I have a feeling that it increased interest in MGM greatly (word of mouth was EVERYWHERE up north...before that noone talked about MGM much). And I believe the same is happening at DisneySea.

I just wish they'd put in MORE good stuff (you know, to balance out all the so-so and crappy stuff), just to see who's theory is correct.

I did find it very interesting to learn about how, in the case of Pooh in Tokyo, quality and expense really DID pay off in a big way. I wish that were used as a shining example, instead of all the cost cutting "well, it's good enough" that we so often hear about.

Well, I sure hope it's like Spidey, that's all I can say.

Buzz is okay, but just okay. Spidey is freakin AMAZING (just rode it a couple of weeks ago in Osaka, and it was just as great as I remembered if not moreso!).

As for interpreting the rest of the data, one could say that since they haven't added much of quality since Indiana Jones, attendance has pretty much stagnated.
