I will say if anyone hasn't seen season 4 you're in for a treat.

To get this topic rolling, we know that Russell T Davies is a huge Buffy fan, does anyone see any similarities between new Who and Buffy?

I know I have in the past, but I can't think of any specifics right now!!!

If she were here right now, u k fan, she'd be able to respond to your questions. Alas, I'm hopeless.

For me it all comes down to one thing. I feel like the re shooting of the WHO series was like a dream request answered. And David Tennant has become my favorite Doctor- something I never thought would happen as likemost I really enjoyed Tom Baker.

I am just hoping they can get at least one more full year ( after this year of specials) out of Tennant . I hear the BBC is throwing money at him. What I don't understand is why he'd leave after telling the world for the last 10 years he was born to play the role.

The last 2 years has seen tennant grow in that role so much - quirky - yet very very edgy. And also seen the return of Sarah-Jane ( my fave companion- and my daughters name sake) - I couldn't have asked for more. Although Rose took a bit to warm up to ( past her looks) she also turned out very well overall...would like to see he return now and again ( although I hear that may not happen)

looking forward to attending Chicago TARDIS 2008 ( haven't been since the 30th show) - only 15 minutes from my home

LOL, I recall starting a thread like this a few months ago when I first got into the series; thanks Family Guy's Blue Harvest & Wikipedia! :)

I don't get BBC America, but I already read what happens in the season finale. Doctor Who Magazine (which we Americans get a month later after its UK release, lol) has four collectible covers with the headline "Who's Army!". I'm waiting for last month's issue to go on sale here: it comes with a reissue of a Target novelization of a classic Who serial; 27 in all. :)

One of my PBS stations is showing the new series and just ended with Series 2 with the Daleks and Cybermen going to war with each other.

I did a somewhat Unnecessary Splurge a while back and bought my first Classic Who serials: the New Beginnings boxset and 1979's City of Death.

City of Death features the Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) and the Second Romana (Lalla Ward) on holiday in Paris, but uncover an alien plot to steal the Mona Lisa. John Cleese makes a cameo in one of the episodes.

The New Beginnings boxset featured Tom Baker's last two serials (The Keeper of Traken and Logopolis) and Peter Davison's first adventure (Castrovalva). These three episodes also introduced new companions Nyssa of Traken and Tegan Jovanka to the series, as well as the return of the Doctor's archnemesis The Master.

I also watched the Second Doctor (Patrick Troughton) serial "The Mind Robber" on YouTube. In this story, the Doctor, Jamie and Zoe end up in the Land of Fiction after the TARDIS malfunctions. The trio encounters a unicorn, toy soldiers, Gulliver, Lancelot, Rapunzel and other literary characters and find out the force that brought them there.

I also watched "Destiny of the Daleks" on YouTube. This was the debut story of the second Romana (Lalla Ward took over the role from Mary Tamm). The episode also sees the robotic K9 coming down with laryngitis and the return of the Daleks' creator, Davros.

I'm waiting for The Five Doctors 25th Anniversary Edition to be released here in the States on August 5th. The 90-minute movie was to commemorate the show's 20th anniversary and has the first five Doctors (well, not quite) and some of their companions being taken out of time and space before being deposited in the mysterious Death Zone on Gallifrey. As they try to figure out whey they were put there, they encounter various enemies like the Master, the Cybermen and the Daleks, er, Dalek. ;)

There's a Doctor Who group on Facebook, and someone mentioned http://www.surfthechannel.com

We can discuss the Season 4 finale after Friday, but hasn't season 4 been great?

I really enjoyed Turn Left (though it has more holes than a fishing net) and The Unicorn and The Wasp. My least favorite episode has been Midnight which in itself was very good. I just felt that it lacked the suspense it tried so hard to build.

Also Catherine Tate has done an amazing job as Donna. She was a piece of very controversial casting over here as she was already very well known for her comedy show and people were concerned she'd ham it up. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Just one thing to add

"I'm Harriet Jones, former Prime Minister."

What a classy lady!!!

I got hooked on the vintage series early on on PBS. It was a space soap opera, with great stories and dime store special effects. I was fortunate to get to meet 4 of the doctors at a convention here in Chicago - and really cool people. Spent time at a bar in the Hyatt Regency O'hare with them - which I found amazing as US TV stars I am fairly sure would be a little more distant.

Also at the convention I was at met companions:
Lis Sladen ( SJ Smith)
Nicola Bryant (Peri)
Sophie Aldred ( Ace )
Carole Ann Ford ( Susan) 1st season
Wendy Padbury (Zoe) 2nd season

and Anthony Ainlee ( The Master )

John Leeson ( voice of K9)
John Levene ) UNIT

btw - that companion group was one set of lookers I can tell you - even those from the early seasons !

was a great weekend - only 2 of the Doc's were 'scheduled'

As a general rule Brit TV stars and fans tend to be a bit cooler about meeting. I hear that a lot from US stars in interviews.

There's a decent sized Sci Fi convention nearby twice a year. I go because they often have some cool Disney stuff as well as everything else. When they announce the next one (it'll be Oct) I'll post a link in case there's anyone there that someone might want autographs from. Also, if I do get to Hamlet I'll see what I can do re David Tennant, but they have said he will not sign anything Dr Who related.

The finale is a very special piece of television. I still don't know if I've digested everything yet. I do know I wasn't 100% happy, but I'm getting ahead of myself.

It's a heck of a ride!!!

I really like the companions of the new series, but I liked Rose and Martha a lot better than Donna. I just can't seem to warm up to her.

With that said, does anyone know what happened to Billie Piper in "Left Turn"? It had seemed there was either a makeup problem, or she had some bad dental work. It looked to me that her mouth and teeth were swollen. Her words seemd slurred or garbled, too.

I couldn't agree more! This needs to be Donna's only season. Maybe that's covered in the season finale? (Don't tell me!!!)

Rose is supposed to be in another universe, anyway. (Besides the fact that Billie Piper is now playing a prostitute on another show.)

But if Dr Who has taught me anything, it's: just because your dead, it's no reason not to make a future guest appearence.
