I don't think I've ever heard it as part of the Davy Crockett song, but it seems like the composers of the show just wrote it based off of the verse. It's in the same style of the How The West Was Won theme, but I'm pretty sure that they're different songs. Using Davy Crockett also helps them not have to pay royalties on it too...
