Today he felt ok, so went to school, but I felt a gland on his neck was swollen. So I knew something was going on.

Anyway, once home from school he took his top off and WOW he was covered in spots!

He feels a bit more "normal" now. A few are starting to itch now, there are ones that are just pink dots, some have blistered and a couple are scabbing over. He did actually have what I thought was just a normal "spot" on his cheek two days ago. I now realise that that was a chickenpox!

Two weeks ago, we were on a plane coming home from Ibiza. (it has an incubation period of around two weeks) So Im guessing that thats where he got it.

Daft thing is, me and mr bloona itch all over suddenly!...lol

Oatmeal baths may help. I also remember being pink from head to toe covered in Calidryl (a brand of calimine lotion) which helped with the itching.

Take care of yourself if you've never had chicken pox, I hear it can be somewhat dangerous in adults.

Hes had a bath in bicarbonate of soda, and Ive covered him in calomine lotion. (donated by a kind friend)

No I havent seen the baloos or uk fan recently, might be seeing Smedley Sunday though!....???

I got them when I was 18 and lived in the bathtub because the water and oatmeal really helped.

Benadryl or any antihistamine medicine works good to keep the itchies away.

    Best of luck to you!

I second the oatmeal baths idea. I remember something about calamine and caladryl. I don't remember which was better but I remember giving DH specific instructions not to buy one of them.

Isn't there a drug out now that lessens the severity of the pox? Now that I think about it, you may need to start taking it at the first sign of an outbreak. Or maybe it's just for shingles.

I know our #2 DD was only one when it was her "turn" and the Dr. gave us a prescription for her. She ended up with very few pox but then got shingles in 2nd grade! Poor kid.

bloona, I hope your son is doing well. Hang in there and see if he'll wear gloves to remind himself not to scratch. Hey, how about 2 baseball mitts or boxing gloves :)

Sheesh, I thought I was going to beat all of you by having them at 23 - but 30??? Sorry, I would have died, for real. I almost did at 23 - I started out with an intestinal infection, then ended up with pleurisy. I missed 14 days of work I think. Then when I got back to work my boyfriend at the time (we worked together) said the words no one in a relationship ever wants to hear: "We need to talk." So, 14 days of missed work and a 15lb. weight loss and I get broken up with the day I go back to work. We went out for 2 and a half years, so this was not pretty. After that I lost ANOTHER 15lbs., so yeah. From July 4th-August 4th, 30 pounds.

Except for the weight loss, I don't have fond memories of the chicken pox........

He has quite a few on his face too. He went to bed wearing thin socks on his hands...lol.

He feels fine though, his appetite isnt brilliant, but not bad.
