I also think the reason it doesn't work as well now is because we are 10 years removed from Lion King ( Zazu) and Aladdin ( Iago) -- and they don't seem as relevant to the show any more....as well as Gloria Estefan's song now seems like too many years ago. That's the trouble with trying to make something current / hip -- it soon is not any more.

It was corny and wonderful. Parents loved to bring their children to see it and have fond memories of it when they were kids. When they go to the "new" one they leave upset. In one case, that I witnessed, absolutely angry that such a wonderful, relaxing show was ruined. I think the New show has a visit once type appeal but I cannot see myself going more than the one time. It will become like the old one, empty! That will happen much faster than the original. Disneyland played to packed houses every single time I went to it. People held hands and swayed back and forth singing along with the music. "Let's all sing like the birdies sing" still has a massive appeal to all ages that I could see. In other words, no you are not alone!

The two things I would change would be post #6's point of Iago and Zazu not being in proportion and the pre-show, which tries too hard. Otherwise, I'm happy that I can go to DL and WDW's MK in the same year and see two different shows.

My younger two do grab at us when the Tiki Goddess comes out but they are far from scared. I am all for tradition, but Iago and Zazu are classic characters that my kids are familiar with even after all these years have past since Lion King and Aladdin. Honestly, I would like to see it changed yet again to something once again new. They didn't just change the content, they revamped all of the mechanics and moving parts too. Have you noticed that red feathers fall when Iago gets blasted? My daughter always looks for one and finds one or two after the show while the crowd is leaving.

All in all though I didn't mind "Under New Management", I just think it could have been done a bit better. The kids loved it though.

It's a bit like poking fun at 'it's a small world' -- ha-ha-ha, everyone hates the song. [Not everyone hates the 'Tiki Room' song or 'it's a small world' it's the updated version of 'I hate my Mother-in-law' jokes on the Jungle Cruise. It's a cheap shot, and lacks creativity in my book.

And the refurb and "Under New Management" update are examples of money put INTO an attraction. Say all you want about how well-spent you personally feel the money was invested. Honestly, I see lots of people come out of the show not heading directly to Guest Relations to complain.

I guess that the whole show isn't terrible but it needs to be, literally, toned down. It is way, way too loud. It actually hurts my ears. Many kids with or without developmental problems have a problem with loud noises. Probably because their ears are new and work better, when they want them too, then my old man ears. Perhaps all it needs is some minor tweaking. I still stand on my statement that, as is, it is not an enjoyable show for a lot of people, young or old.

Up until I read your posts I actually liked the Tiki Room. But you've set me straight. I guess I don't really like it. My 3yo who wanted to go back in right away, is misguided also, because now we know every kid comes out screaming. I'll have to remember to sit down with him tonight and tell him that the Tiki Room is scary and no fun.
