I was there in 1982 and quite a bit in the park's early years. There were huge crowds coming in daily from the monorail right from the start, and from buses and hotel shuttles as well. No, they didn't have the whole Disney shuttle thing going, but there were lots of people coming in from all directions, not just from the parking lot.

I must say, with the new bag checks centralized i have spent less time waiting at the turnstiles - and since i dont carry a bag, i dont get stuck at bag checks. It works for me!
