I was at Epcot on Friday at 11:30pm, an hour after park clear. A few hundred self-invited CM's were gathered there to watch a late night dress rehearsal of the July 4th fireworks show at World Showcase Lagoon.

Things came off pretty much without a hitch. It's going to be quite the patriotic finale next Tuesday night.

You're going to need earmuffs. The volume level of the final fusilades are right off the chart.

Especially effective were the red-white-and blue "fan" style fireworks that go off above and behind the American Adventure. It's a beautiful effect.

    But even more interesting --

The 4th of July fireworks finale is added onto the end of a regular Illuminations show. So on Friday night the dress rehearsal started started out with a full Illuminations program.

Except that there were no fireworks at all during that part of the show! They had had to quickly "reset" all of the show elements after the 9pm show, and that didn't include the fireworks.

And it was beautiful! We got to watch the entire Illuminations program with just music, lighting, the fountains, the globe, and the lasers. No fireworks. It waa marvelous!

You'd be surprised how effective the program is without the fireworks masking some of the more subtle effects.

Seeing the show done that way was worth the latenight visit all by itself.

Do both. It's very easy to accomplish. Simply watch the Disney MGM Studios fireworks from around the entrance (Crossroads of the World or so) and then as soon as it finishes exit the park and walk over to EPCOT. MGM Studios fireworks I believe are at 9:00 and EPCOT's are at 10:00. At least that's how it was last year.

Sounds like the same old thing they do year after year. It's still quite a spectacle but there is no element of surprise for those of us who do this display on a yearly basis.
