And that's probably what they'll remember forever about their first day of school...

Here's another map that shows it's near the "Matterhorn" (didn't know we had a Matterhorn in Nevada. ;-)

Hopefully, those fires up north will be knocked down very soon.

Lightning fires are not unusual in that region in the summer and there is a fire camp located 23 miles west of Elko in Carlin.

Sorry, I am from that area.

He said that they are under a red flag warning for fires and if there are any storms that blow in that have lightning, there will be fires all over.

He said the tanker planes are filling up from a near by resevoir to drop water on it to help the fire fighters but no luck yet.

I can totally relate... My parents live in Crestline, CA and we're TOO well-versed in wildfires and evacuations. :-(

Yeah thats what I was thinking too at first, but just thought I'd double check. But it sounds like our friend NevadaRebel is not in Vegas and a little more North of the state, so my thoughts and prayers and I'll let my Niece know too so she can pray as well. Thanks for the information though!

Yikes, LVBelle! Yeah probably not a memorable first day of school. Thank you too Wondering Alice for your info as well.

It is lots of mountains up there and tons of dry brush this time of year so any thing (like everywhere else) sets of fires.

It would be so nice to have a good rain with no lightning once in awhile to lessen the risk in all of the drought-stricken areas... We can always hope.

My Sister and Brother-in-Law live in Wendell, used to live in Twin and look to be back there soon, but I spoke with my Brother-in-Law today and he said he hasn't heard or seen of any fires in Boise or near where Jackpot is. I'm sure though my Niece was quick to pray for the folks up there.
