Fantasmic! at WDW is horrible. Even if WDW would update the audio system, lighting system, stage effects and mist screen projections like Disneyland has over the last five years, it's still embarassingly inferior because it was designed and built very cheaply and very haphazardly.

But darn it, the WDW version is still good for a laugh.

It's like the difference between the 8 minute long WDW Pirates of the Caribbean and the 15 minute long Disneyland Pirates of the Caribbean. You just feel so badly for all those WDW tourists who don't know any better and think that is all Fantasmic! is capable of being.

But the WDW version is still very much a croud pleaser. I would expect them to switch to the digital projectors and upgrade the audio (which is better than DLRs was prior to the recent upgrade) some thime this year.
There are some of the stuff at WDW that I like better, like the mist screen classic Disney film montage. And the stadium/ concession stand are FAR superior to the madhouse that is DLRs Fantasmic in terms of crowd control and comfort. Not to mention pre-show entertainment.
So I will say that DLRs is superior in most ways, WDWs is still quit enjoyable.

This Fantasmic is so popular in TPFKaTD-MGMS speaks more to the audience and the way it is played up.

Sorcery in the Sky, Disney-MGM's former amazing pyro show, was so much better as well. Sadly, it had to die for Fantasmic to be birthed ... well, at least as far as Disney execs were concerned.

It isn't that Fantasmic in FLA is awful, just overrated. I went many years without seeing it, but have sat through it at least 3-4 times in the past three years (usually when I am entertaining friends and/or family who aren't there as often).

I wonder if Fantasmic would have been a better show had it gone into the MK. That idea was floated, but died pretty quickly in favor of the Studios when ops people pointed to the traffic nightmares that happen nightly at DL when Fantasmic is being shown.

The DLR version seems a little outdated as far as the characters go. The villian scene only include The Evil Queen, Ursala, and Maleficient. All in all I think both are great shows and i love them because they are both different.

But I'll say .... the fact DL's uses the bend of the Rivers of America make the show SO INCREDIBLY expansive ... It's CINERAMA x1000 !!! It's as though the show is so organic .. as it rises out of the natural environment that makes up the west side of Disneyland! Not to mention how it's one of few spectacles in Disney theme park history that actually utilizes LARGE scale full attractions - The Mark Twain, and the Columbia.

Walt Disney, and even Mr. "Large Scale Spectacle" Busby Berkeley would be so proud!

Then you go from this organic amazement with no borders .. as props and elements seem to appear from a distance .. and fade away .. as they pass up the river ....... To this "proscenium arch" format within the CONFINES of a _Stage Auditorium_ in the studios park!

I really think designing DL's Fantasmic will go down as one of the most brilliant creative efforts in DL history ... as the show is not confined to a 'stage' ... and seemingly has no limit to how far it can reach in any direction.
