Since you're going to be there on the Thursday before Halloween, you won't have a problem going on all the fastpass attractions even without any fastpasses. If by chance you haven't gone on Space Mountain or Indy by Saturday, because you've been devoting your time to non-fastpass attractions (whose lines will also be short on Thursday and probably Friday), they would be the fastpass ones with heavier use on Saturday, but they'll certainly be available well into the day. Haunted Mansion Holiday has fastpasses this time of year because it becomes very popular, but because of the ride's capacity, they're not crucial either. I'm not saying that fastpasses won't save you time, but they're not that important to having a good time at Disneyland. I do hope someone else also answers your question, because I don't know if my opinion on fastpasses is odd or not.

The waits will be longer on Saturday, so if you want FPs then get Space, Splash and Indy to ride later in the day. In DCA get Soarin' and Screamin' for later in the day. You should still be able to go on everything at least once on Saturday.
