Also, you all might be surprised that only about 1/4 of TDSea actually looks towards Tokyo Bay, and that is the back of the park only. One side shares the backstage areas with TDL, the front has the monorail st. and the parking structure and the east side faces a water canal in the port area. All of this is to the best of my knowledge as i have walked the entire perimeter of the resort.

As for the Oriental Land Company, here's an Eisner quote from the annual report: "(TDS) wil be totally original and totally breathtaking, thanks to the commitment of our partners, Oriental Land Company Ltd, whose investment is building the park." I like how he said totally original, but he didn't say that about DCA. In fact, in that section he mentioned Downtown Disney first, then the new hotel, then DCA. Saving the best for last?

I've yet to see anyone who wants to fly from Japan to the US to see DCA.
Originally Posted By TDLFAN <<I have yet to see anyone who wants to fly from Jpan to the US to see DCA>> Well, i am sure that DCA will become a side trip to DL just like Universal is to WDW. However, here in Florida, there is a lot of Japanese tour groups arriving almost daily i would say. I see them all over WDW, they stay at the resort hotels on property and basically spend a lot of $$. My assesment is that they enjoy WDW but they don't appear to be impressed with anything at all. Example- the other day while watching the "Magical Moments" parade (which is truly a magical mess) three japanese ladies were standing across Main Street from us and during the parade i kept watching them for their reaction, and frankly they stood there stone-faced most of the time. This is not typical for the japanese who at TDL react with lots of enthusiasm and participate in the parade experience. Also, as i work in the travel business, many tourists from Japan i have met at work share their views on WDW when i ask which one park they like better, their responses are "not so good" "not too clean". Sometimes Disneyland gets higher marks over WDW from these same japanese tourists. I have also seen japanese tourists at DLP but have not had the chance to hear their impressions from Paris. Personally, i would hate to travel from o far away expecting the same TDL quality and getting short changed, as the japanese do spend a lot of money on their Disney trips outside Japan. Yet they love Disney pasionately and still come, go figure... It's like us here at the boards, we may critizise this and that but in the end, we still love anything Disney and will continue to patronize it..

DCA will be a great Park, in ten years, DisneySea will be a great Park when it opens. I wish we could have DisneySea, but I think DCA is the better choice for the Disneyland Resort. It just makes more sense for the location of the park. MouseBear

Originally Posted By MouseBear Salutations TDLFAN, I actually knew that DisneySea was intended for Long Beach, but those planes fell through. I've heard it was some kind of environmental issue. Next the company was going to build Westcot in DL's parking lot. That plan fell through when an Anaheim citizen group led a successful campaign to stop the park. So DCA and DTD were the best alternative for the situation as it was. I would rather have DisneySea, and I'd rather have a West Coast version of the World Showcase. However, these Parks were not economically, physically, or politically possible in the old parking lot. Give the Disneyland Resort ten years. It will evolve from a good place to visit, to an amazing place to visit. I hope, MouseBear

And like you said give them 10 years. DisneySeas will not have the same problems since it's not being fully funded by Disney, and they don't seem to have the same type of space limitations.
