They were canceled due to wind on the 4th of July though, which was very unfortunate.

They did go off on July 18th (Friday night) without a hitch.....

But Disney is not getting "lucky" with its significance dates and the Fireworks....

I've read that they will perform fireworks shows at WDW in a damn hurricane. Well, not quite, but you get the idea.

NIMBY's be damned, Remember... will go down in history as one of the greatest shows ever performed at Disneyland. Unfortunately, cancellations are a significant risk, but it's well worth it.

As evil as I think Disney is, no, it's entirely a safety issue and they are at the mercy of the fire department. You'll see them release balloons before the show to see which way the wind is blowing, if at all. They'll even select some kids from the crowd to help let the balloons go.

They keep testing up until the start of the show, and during the show, and if they don't like what they see, the show is canceled, sometimes halfway through.

Disney is not out to ruin your day by canceling the fireworks. The fireworks have already been purchased, the show is sponsored anyway, and it's in their best interests to set them off.

Is it the type of fireworks used, where they are setting them off from, tighter safety regulations/requirements, or something else. Perhaps some other reason.

A slightly smaller show beats all or nothing particularly if it means that people will not see the fireworks on their entire trip.

I was at DL on a day where is was not that windy and the fireworks where cancelled. A friend of mine who goes often said to look at the flags on Main Street Station and if they are blowing toward the castle, even if the wind is not strong, they will likely cancel the show. In other words it is not as much the strength of the wind but its direction.

People want to see fireworks. Anything less wouldn't be feasible. Cancellations are just something we have to deal with.
