Free Disney Dining Plan this year???

    Especially when they mark up some of the hamburgers to $23!

    WDW is just different in a lot of ways. Virtually unlimited land means that they've built out hotels to match the demand for on-property lodging. Then, since a much-greater percentage of revenue is from the hotels, WDW needs more promotions in the off-season to keep those hotels full - hence, the dining plan. The average number of days per visit is more, so the price of tickets per day can be less. And so on it goes.

    Also, for the most part, I don't think that most guests directly compare the two resorts in terms of a particular vacation, as in "Gee, we want to go to a Disney resort for X days this summer - which one should we go to?"

    That's only true if you stay in a Disney Hotel. At DLR there are plenty of inexpensive hotels and motels nearby, many within walking distance of the esplanade. The same is true for eating off property.
