I'm also thinking that a new hotel will be added at some point and/or a major redo of the PP Hotel will take place. I asked this in another thread but I'm curious to know when the east parking garage will go up. At one point there was a lot of talk about that starting sometime this year.

With the addition of Carsland, they're using up almost all of the available space in the park for expansion, save for a few pads scattered around. There's still work to do on the retheming of the Pier, but they announced that they will be 'finished' with it on July 1, so I doubt that will happen in the next 3-5 years.

I would also expect that they might want to expand DTD at some point, but there's an issue of space. They could go north or south at the western end (by the DLH), but they would need to build underground parking to replace the lots that would be taken out. At some point, I have to think that they're going to rebuild the PPH site, but they're currently remodeling it (hence the service elevator installed on the outside), so there will be a few years before that point.

I would think that they might want to get working on the parking structure on the Pumbaa lot soon, but it's been pretty quiet recently (and the lot has rarely opened since the addition of the Toy Story lot). I saw some conceptual drawings of the Anaheim Rapid Connection (ARC, an airport-like tram for connections between DLR, the convention center, and Angel Stadium) that involved a station at the Pumbaa site. Perhaps they're waiting for more details to be known on that project before proceeding. ARC is currently scheduled to open in 2016, so I would think they're almost to the point that Disney could start finalizing their plans too.

I also think they are planning a new attraction (dark ride probably) for where Maliboomer used to be. The "park" seems so temporary and tacky compared to the rest of the DCA re-do that I've got to think they don't plan on it being around for long.

So it wouldn't surprise me to see additions to Carsland in short order, once it opens, if only to help absorb crowds in the area.

There are also going to be a few buildings along the main drag that are planned to remain empty at opening, and could become additional retail spaces if there's demand. I suspect that they could potentially be converted into dinining facilities if needed. Though with the Cozy Cone food court, Flo's V8 Cafe, and Filmore's smoothie stand, I don't think they'll need too much more right away.

Waste of space? That's a very highly coveted bit of real estate! It's the largest for-rent venue inside the whole Resort. It generates a lot of revenue for special events.
