To ME-----ONLY ME -----I've had to follow my wife around for 31 years. This is personal but I'll be brief. I've finally discovered about 6 months ago, that it is NOT demeaning for me to ALWAYS have to chase after her when she WON'T listen to me. I'm so rational, etc and she doesn't GET IT! But I learned just 6 months ago or so that we all have our foibles and that's hers. It's not weak of me to follow her and NOT expect her to always give in to me.
With this real estate she yelled and argued and "I'm going to embarrass you at the paper passing and not sign" I hung tough we made a fortune and she has apololized ever since. I've been similarly stubborn over other things. It's all give and take, I THINK> and shouldn't ge I WON or she WON and is exactly why a lot of Hollywood couples break up. Marriages based on competition tend not to last. Now YOU are on the moral high ground, NO question as you know I fear global warming but the "act like a wife" is not good. I hope you were just being a hot head LIKE I TEND TO BE and didn't really mean that. I'm sorry as this is NONE of my business so take this with a not telling you what to do--this is strictly personal freedom and my lousy 2 cents.

The part about the Hummer being bad for the planet...you're kidding right?

I drive a '06 Suburban which is more or less very similar in fuel consumption to the H2. I traded my 2000 in for a new one just like it. The one I traded had well over 150K miles and 6 years of kid transport duty. I sleep soundly at night, and I honestly don't care one bit if gas prices go over $5 a gallon, I'll STILL drive that mofo.

As for the wife part... My wife and her happiness is far more important than most anything to me.

My wife tells me two years ago, "Honey, I know that the new body style is coming out in the Mercedes Wagon. I want either one of those, or a Beetle Convertible, I don't care which."

I set straight away comparing prices, and do you know the wagon was special order at the time for around $70K, while the Beetle was $23K...$24K for the turbo drop top. Call me crazy...I splurged and got the Turbo Drop Top and that VW runs just fiiiiiine to this very day.

as she cleans the 5000 square foot 6/4 house, the office condo, runs the business, dishes, laundry, homework with kids, and on and on so SHE has first dibs on most things.

I am telling you that even if we won a Hummer on Price is Right I would have not let her drive that beast 1 mile unless she was hauling large and heavy cargo or 2 other passengers. Even though I do not work now because I recently quit from Lowe's in the millworks dept. and she practices as a dentist I still have lay down the good rules. She thinks just because others in her field get to have 60 thousand dol. cars that eat up our resources that she is entitled to do the same.

I cannot believe there is a woman out there that will allow that lack of respect! The real issue here is your attitude, not an SUV sucking up HER income!!

    Get a job.

Wait a minute, I agree primarily with what you are saying tink, but the yours/mine attitude is exactly why the divorce rate is so high in the world. My wife and I are a team, WE decide what to do with OUR money regardless of which partner brings it home. For a while, my wife was the primary bread winner for our family and she would not make any major financial decision without my approval. I did the same when I was bringing home the bread before I went back to school a number of years ago.

Same goes for Loudrock, the “I say what we should do because I’m the man†attitude is, as STPH implied, Neanderthal or at best archaic. You are a team of equals, threat you wife that way or she will, in time, look for someone who does.
