I remember him first as the Hippy Dippy Weatherman. I don't remember if it was on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson or on the Ed Sullivan Show, but it was a classic.

I will miss him and his humor (note to self, find his old albums).

    RIP George

I just watched that about a month ago, having just purchased season 1 of SNL on dvd. It was interesting to watch. This was before the current format of the show was set. He basically came out and did stand-up 5 or 6 times during the show. It was kinda hard for him to get a rhythm going in those 3 or 4 minute little segments. I don't think he was in a single sketch.

I much more enjoy his HBO specials. There's one on tonight, called I believe "Carlin On Campus". Should be extra poingant. I always loved his views on religion, although I didn't agree with everything he said. And his outlook on our use of language was just incredible. I still laugh every time I fly and hear the announcement that we're about to start the "boarding process"!

Even though I may not have agreed on everything he talked about (religion), he certainly hit the 'nail on the head' about most subject matters of life.

RIP Mr. Carlin. You were very talented, indeed. The world is indeed a little bit sadder place without you.

There's a whole riff on how spoiled and soft today's children are. The funniest thing is when he brings up, "Remember, this is Mr. Conductor talking. I know what I'm talking about."

On helmets: "Grown-ups have taken all the fun out of being a kid just to save a few thousand lives."

On hazardous toys: "Whatever happened to natural selection...? The kid who swallows too many marbles doesn't grow up to have kids of his own.... Nature knows best."

And I remember his 1990s sitcom on FOX. It also starred Maggie Sullivan.

George Carlin also appeared on an episode of The Simpsons; it's when Homer finds out what his middle initial stands for (Jay), and he accidentally puts special plants in the all-natural fruit juice that George's and Martin Mull's characters are voicing.

Robin Williams is too frantic and not as funny anymore. Please don't sell me on Dane Cook. I like Frank Caliendo because he's a local guy even though his act is getting a little old. This guy is a take him or leave him but I find Steven Wright hilarious "I once poured spot remove on my dog and now he's gone." Patton Oswalt is very funny. But right now the king has to be Chris Rock. And really due to a masterful bit he did about ten years ago. One which I can't repeat here.
