I didn't know about this either (actually, I check his fan sites every few months, but last I checked there were no tours planned), and my friend called today out of the blue and he didn't even have to TELL me it was Stevie...I knew! So, luck on our side, I went down and tickets were still available ($110 bucks a piece...ouch). So, yeah. I'm goin. Can't wait. I love my life (full of surprises...this was shaping up to be a boring week ). Anyone ever seen him? What did you think? How are his shows live? (honestly I wouldn't care if I was in the worst seat in the house and he played 2 tunes...this is a pilgrimage for me!!)

His band was very tight, HUGE, horn section, about 8 back up singers, two drummers, etc. He ran through all his hits at the time with long improvised sessions for Living In The City, Sir Duke & As(which is my favorite song so I was in heaven)! I wonder how condensed down he'll be? I'll be curious for your review. Wow, I'm excited for you! Have a great time.

Personally, I'm guessing our seats will be terrible (heck, we just got them 2 days ago, way late...lucky to get them at all!), but whatever. I'll chuckle if we're in absolutely the worst seats in the house...and STILL be happy to be there.

[but he jammed just the same] The girl and other couple I went with, were there to see the co-bill bands like Jackson Browne, Stevie Nicks, Linda Ronstadt, and others [which were all good BTW] I was most happy to get to see Stevie Wonder and Joan Baez. I also liked Taj Mahal's performance. Like many of you, I have always admired Stevie Wonder. From his "little Stevie Wonder early years, his later work, and his collaborated work and writing for other artists.

He sounded wonderful, he did a broad range of his stuff in a generously long set, and the band/sound was excellent. As opposed to Lisa's experience with a previous show being a bit meandering, this one was tight. Song after song, with no pauses and with not much speaking on his part. (As opposed to, say, Gladys Knight's show in which she casually chatted between most numbers.) It's not that Stevie's show didn't feel warm or fresh, it was just tight. I spotted him playing a slot machine in the casino later that night. I watched from a distance for a while, then decided to try to approach him. I was amazed that neither Stevie's handlers nor the MGM security people there stepped in to stop me. I introduced myself to him and thanked him for his music and the show that night. We talked about Michigan and comiserated about being unlucky in the casino for a couple minutes. He was quite nice.
