I was reading in a blog where someone asked Disney if the Golden Oak Project was going to be built on the former River Country site. Disney said no! Clearly according to the map it looks like it's going to be built somewhere near that area. I have no idea where else Disney could place this developement except perhaps around their long abandoned airfield. I thought just about all the land surrounding the golf courses were deveolped.

Hopefully, it won't happen. But KT's concerns are not unfounded.

Master-planned by Walt Disney Imagineering and acclaimed design firms, homes are discerningly placed amid lush landscapes. Expansive conservation areas comprise almost half of the entire 980-acre footprint and provide sanctuary to migrating songbirds, ospreys and wood storks. Four gracefully arranged neighborhoods await your consideration. Each is designed as an exquisite complement to the whole of Golden Oak and a well-lived life. Homes will be crafted by a select group of expert builders chosen for their experience in constructing fine custom residences. Carolwood The natural preserves surrounding this lovely neighborhood offer a scenic and private setting for the finest of family getaways. At up to three-quarters acre in size, each of Carolwood's seventeen custom-home sites can amply accommodate your family estate. Should you choose an address in the secluded, northernmost enclave of Carolwood Reserve, you'll be well rewarded with serene natural, golf course or water views. The Reserve is a limited offering of eight premium custom-home sites, all generously sized at approximately three-quarters acre." Did you catch that bit about Carolwood Reserve? "... golf course or water views." WATER VIEWS?? Which body of water will be offering the views?? Surely they must mean Bay Lake. And since there will only be EIGHT home sites for Carolwood Reserve, some of which will be adjoining the Four Seasons Golf Course, the others could easily fit into the old River Country property. Yes, skinner truly loves a good conspiracy theory, to which Spirit will gladly attest. And this one seems quite plausible. Speaking of Spirit... I'd like to see him chime in on this discussion.

But, 980 acres is a huge amount of land. I didn't know there was that much acreage undeveolped on the portion of WDW property. I'm still curious where this development is going in. I find it highly unlikely that Disney would allow River Country to go to home sites. Mabye the property for proposed development is currently swamp and they plan on terraforming it and creating a "lake". I should look at satellite photos of WDW.

To the east with another canal and Disney's warehouses and (non Disney ) housing developements along Winter Garden Vineland Rd.

Are you referring to that big patch of cleared land to the east of Fort Wilderness Campsites and to the northwest of Port Orleans, with the property entrance just north of Vista Blvd? Geez, what a crappy location.

Another important clue: the development is adjacent to the new Four Seasons Hotel. Anyone know just where that is being built? According to Go magazine (the inflight publication for Airtran), "Initial interest has come from as far as the UK and Brazil, and the priority reservation list is quickly approaching the initial 30 slots. (Homes are expected to be ready in late 2011/early 2012.)" http://www.airtranmagazine.com...-park-is

Well, if you're a Saudi Arabian prince maybe. Or if you're the head of a South American telecom firm. Or even maybe a Wall Street banking CEO, who needs a fifth home with all that Ponzi money. But as a real home? There? Crazy. But WDW Co. has been all about real estate development, first and foremost, since the 1990s. The sea of green that once existed is now simply DisneySprawl that just blends into Central Fla urban/ghetto sprawl.
