DS (15) is in the market for new irons. I got away with giving him a used set of no-name clubs a couple of years ago because he had outgrown his junior clubs and was still too small for mens. So a friend who is a golf pro at a local course gave me these ladies clubs that, thank God, didn't have anything on them indicating they were ladies because DS would die if he knew he were playing with girls clubs.
So since last summer he's grown to 5'8" and 132 lbs. and certainly is ready to handle men's clubs.
I would love to find something used but he is a lefty and it seems good quality used lefty sets are few and far between.
His buddies are pretty good golfers and have expensive clubs, so there is some peer pressure there. DS has his heart set on Nike Slingshots (he hasn't even hit them yet - I think he just likes the way they look and hey, they'll match his Nike bag). So tomorrow we are off to try out some irons, and probably some woods too. It kills me to spend so much money on clubs but I figure if I'm willing to spend $1200 for a single year of club soccer and have nothing really tangible to show for it, I can spend that much on golf clubs that he'll have for a long time to come.

And if he somehow suddenly loses interest in golf, well then gee, I'll have myself a new set of irons :).
