For GRR and Roger Rabbit Cartoon Spin, the only thing the computer checks is to see if you have another FP for that ride, it doesn't care if you have an FP from another attraction that is not yet valid.

It is a way to get 2 FP's at once, such as grabbing a Soarin's FP, then walking directly to GRR and getting a GRR FP.

As I understand it, Disney does this on attractions that the FP are being underused, and that they want to increase the "numbers".

Since this is an unpublished feature, it would seem that not many guests would read about it on a message board and take advantage of it. So, it would seem that most people that do take advantage of it do so without really knowing what they're doing. I guess Disney knows about how many people this would be based on the number of "THIS IS NOT A FASTPASS" rejections that are issued at the networked machines.
