Hi everyone... Well.. the weather was a bit frightful with lighting galore but the rain held back while we waited for tonight's (9/28th) preview performance of HalloWishes at the MK. I arrived there at around 7:15pm and looked around for other LP friends (ssWEDguy, riverted) but the MK was rather crowded due to this particular night being one of those Extra Magic Hours nights. After walking around the MK and going around the Hub area several times, I decided to call it quits and sat in the dead center of the hub area facing the castle and set up my camera.

The show began ontime and lasted about 8 mins.

Now my thoughts about the show... Interesting to say the least and very upbeat. A bit like having a techno Disney party at times, with pyro and lots of color. The show (in preview form here and with some elements missing) was enjoyable enough but not as grand as the regular "Wishes" show. The choice of music is a bit odd indeed. Disney purists will argue about the remixed style of the soundtrack of the merist of the voiceover narrators as opposed to the original voices heard on the attractions... most notably is the fact that the HM's Ghost Host is also our host here for the evening... Glad to know this dude gets around the MK just like one of those oversized strollers.
While it was a bit odd to heard familiar villain-related tunes remixed to a peppy, upbeat style... I thought the mood of the show was more celebratory and less scary. After all, this show is intended for the "not-so-scary" parties.. right?

The show is very colorful indeed wiht some moments of erie and some moments of pure enchantment. The Castle's lighting system adds tons to create that mood...like the icing on the cake. The new animated projections on the Cinderella Castle, while not as elaborate as HKDL's Disney in the Stars movie projections on their Sleeping Beauty Castle, are plain fun to watch and help the show move right along..albeit not necesarily with a continuous storyline. But who cares... this is eye candy that feels your senses with glee. For added punch, more pyro is added to Cinderella Castle (more than I remember from previous efforts at the MK) which instantly brought back memories of TDL's grand pyro shows in the early 90s, where the castle itself played a big part in the show as well. While the Castle mounted pyro is not as extensive as HKDL's or even DL's E-Tickets in the Sky, what's here is enough to send the crowd go WOW! Of course, I too would have loved to see those fireballs fly like they do at DL, HKDL and TDL, but that would be asking too much from the WDW set, but that was IMHO the missing element of the show.

Some elements of the show are pretty neat. At one point in time Jafar takes over the skies and the pyro that follows create some very interesting patterns in the sky. Likewise we get those now familiar happy faces and cubes patterns seen at DL.

Of course, I can not offer a better or more detailed description of this show (I can hardly remember the songs that were included in the soundtrack...Grin, Grinning Ghosts, and many others are there), especially knowing that some very important elements were missing...such as the perimeter fireworks.. and the appearance of the flying Witch riding her broom from the top of Cinderella Castle as in previous years' shows, so it would be unfair to put this show down right off the start.

But as seen tonight (9/28th) I will give the show a rating of B- and I am sure this could very much become an A rating once the entire show is in place.

Here are the pics from this evening...

My favorite pic is, I think, the one that's #38 - Night turns into Day! I *love* it when they do stuff like that in a pyro show! Ooo!

As TDL Fan stated, it is EXTERMLY nice to see many elements from Remember in this show. And I am very happy that we even have the show at all (as miserly as WDW is). But that soundtrack...UGH!

I went back out to see it again last night after work and while I liked it more than I did Tuesday night, I still have problems with the soundtrack. The show product (pyro) is great! The lighting is AWESOME! But those re mixes just stray too far from their origins. It's just strange! If the Headless Horseman and the Haunted Mansion/Grave Diggers from the Boo to You parade doesn't scare the stroller set, then I'm sure that ACTUAL music and dialogue from the Haunted Mansion and Nightmare Before Christmas wouldn't scare them either. Not to mention that "Poor Unfortunate Souls" is actually sung in The Little Mermaid animated film. I can only shake my head and wonder...

I'm a sucker though, so I'll be back out there again. This time watching the complete show Sunday night. I guess since I keep going back to watch it, it must mean that subconsciously the wonderful pyro and lighting overshadows the highly questionable soundtrack to me.

By the way...I just watched the video online from Disney World Triva.Com and it really doesn't do the show justice at all. I feel bad for you guys that can only see it on there. Remember, I'm rather hard on this show and think that it's 100% better than that video. I really think that you are missing just how AMAZING the castle looks during the show from the lighting effects. As I sit here and reflect while I type, I have to say that there is an awful lot to like and enjoy about this show! But Lord please help the people responsible for this soundtrack!!!

..and a pic with you will make me look like Brad Pitt. Remember, I have seen your avatar on Micechat! Besides, you are not my type so for a change I am glad you particularly don't think me beautiful.
