This might be a good topic to post "I was there" Epcot Center stories...

Mainly 'cause I have one. I was there for the opening day celebration of The Living Seas!

I remember going out on my day off and just walking around World Showcase early in the morning. I remember when my wife and I would get a babysitter and head to EPCOT and have dinner and have a drink. I remember opening the EPCOT monorail station at 6am in the morning...one of my favorite things was we had to walk under the monorail beam to make sure no one was working near it before we powered up. I saw many, many, many sunrises at EPCOT Center. I was standing outside EPCOT when I saw the Challenger tragedy happen. I was there the day a small plane crashed in the parking lot. I remember the day we sent only white cars to one of the parking sections and all other colors to the lot on the other side of the tram lane. I remember smelling Oranges in Horizons, I remember Dreamfinder, I miss Bonnie Appetite. I miss the EPCOT Kite Festival. I remember the circus in Future World. I remember Skylidescope, Surprise in the Sky, Laserphonic Fantasy and multiple versions of Illuminations.

    Happy Birthday EPCOT.

    LOL !

The best part was at the end of the day when people started leaving and looking for their cars. 200 white cars in one lot. The worst part was the next day when my boss called me into the office.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I shared a number of those memories...

I remember dining at the Coral Reef when it was brand-spanking new. Playing in IMAGE WORKS with enthusiastic friends who laughed with delight in the (then new) application of technology toward a sense of wonder. Taking part in the FUTURE POLL and looking for the results in USA Today.

Wondering how long it would be before more and more of us were eating Tilapia (not that long)...

Not having any advanced touring experience, the first thing we did was hop in line for Spaceship Earth. This brand new attraction wasn't running very well, and kept stopping for 10 to 15 minutes at a time. And there I was, sitting in a vehicle on a sharp incline, and trying to keep my tender shoulders and back from touching the seat! Talk aboutcher pain . . . . .

EPCOT is special, special, special. The music as you walk around, the little light up sparkles in the sidewalk, the talking water fountain, I love this park. The Land, Imagination, The Living Seas and then the wonderful World Showcase. I love EPCOT!

I worked the Mexican Cantina and sold Churros (of all things), but the funniest part was seening all the rednecks construction workers saking us what the heck was a churro?? Anyways...after my shift was over, I snuck in the park and rode World Of Motion, the very first ride I did at EPCOT Center, then was able to see Spaceship Earth that was opened briefly late in the evening. I remember coming out somewhat disappointed by it.

Didn't go back to EPCOT Center until Oct 1st, 1982 Opening day, and we stood in line outside and caught a bit of the opening ceremony which ended with a big balloon release... The NBC Today show crew was there and we saw Willard Scott doing the weather just a few feet away from us. FUN FUN!! Will never forget that.

    HAPPY 23th!!!

That would be Plant City, the winter strawberry capital of the world. I was friends with a woman in college who actually held the title Miss. Strawberry festival.
