It stayed that way untell after AK opened and MK was still our least visited park(and I stress least) in all of WDW untell we gave Magic Kingdom a full day chance to mix up our trip for a change. After a day of going in with an open mind and not thinking Disneyland park, but a different and unique Magic Kingdom park we both left(my dad and I) with a new respect for the park and have enjoyed it much more for the real magic that place is. Since then (about 2003) MK is on equal to the others for us and we don't ever miss Wishes( the awesomely huge fireworks). I hope it stays magical and continues to grow even more beautiful, mysterious, and exciting.

They stopped that after 30, but it seems they started again with this year. It shows the castle all made up for DL's 50th and Dumbo. When I get a chance I will try to scan it (yes I have one, thanks to DD) and post it.
