He seems to be feeling better, but his kidney function is something that won't improve. He only has about 15-20% function in them right now. So we will have to continue to give him fluids for the rest of his life now, plus some meds in his food every day. He had a follow up yesterday and his numbers are up and looking better. The vet says he could last 3 weeks, 3 months or 3 years. Who knows. We inherited him when we bought our house in '95. Just asking for some happy thoughts sent our old guys way. We know he old for a kitty, but you just think they will be around forever, ya know? http://catster.com/pet_page.ph p?i=67826&j=t My other kitty, Kosmo, is at the vet right now with my husband. He seems to have gotten into something, maybe a fight with a stray, not sure. But he has a bunch of little wounds on his chest and upper front leg and won't walk on it much. Hoping it just needs cleaning up and time to heal. He's in quite a bit of pain, you can tell. http://catster.com/pet_page.ph p?i=67806&j=t

She's on sub-q fluids every other day, eats Science Diet k/d, and gets aluminum hydroxide twice a day. While this has been more work and expense for us, she's actually doing really well, relatively speaking and we're grateful for every day that we have with her. (And it probably helps that she's a great patient! It's gotten to where one of us can pretty easily do fluids on our own and she purrs through the whole thing.) If you saw her, you probably wouldn't even know she was sick. She's put on weight, likes to play (even yowling chasing after her balls when we are trying to sleep!), and greets me just about every day by trying to pull the sheets down. I can sympathize with hearing certain figures and freaking out. Early on, when you don't quite know what it all means, it sounds intimidating and scary. What we have discovered is that there's actually a pretty big "club" of people who currently have/have had kitties with CRF. (http://www.felinecrf.com is a great site)

I am hopeful that you still have some good times ahead with your beloved Alexander Puddlington Rozhenko, and that your adorable Kosmo Kramer just needs some first aid. The vet said cat's mouths are very dirty, not like a dog's, and when they get puncture wounds from another kitty's bite it can be quite bad. Pud seems to be feeling better and has a lot more energy then he did before we started fluids. We have to put the aluminum stuff in his food too. He has a hard time keeping food down some days though. But he's hanging in there and seems to feel much better. He doesn't enjoy the Sub-Q at all, lol. He always tries to get up and leave. Thanks for all the well wishes everyone! I'll keep you posted.

Ours got her checkup at the vet today, and she's made improvements in all areas. Here's a graphical representation of her bloodwork: http://sharward.com/sera ...You might want to do something similar (it doesn't have to be as fancy of course) so that you can closely monitor things. The "sky high" areas on the chart is when she got diagnosed with the disease and needed critical care. Since then, with the sub-q treatments and phospherous lowering medication, things are looking much, much better. Hopefully you will find hope and comfort in our experience.
