I didn't really like Half Blood Prince. In fact it took three attempts to get the whole way through the movie. Rosie was a HUGE fan of Harry Potter, and the first couple of times I tried to watch it were just too close after her death. Between having to watch it without her and the horribly dark theme of the movie, I could just never get into it.

I just kind of scrapped the whole Harry Potter thing for a couple of years. But last October I went to IOA at Universal and was absolutely blown away by the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Then at Christmas I was given DVD's for Deathly Hallows Parts 1 & 2.

I knew I needed to know how the series ended (all I ever read were the first two books) and of course to know that I would have to watch the final films. And I knew that to get to the final two, I would have to actually sit through Half Blood Prince. So I finally did. It was probably by far my least favorite of the Potter films.

I'm sure that was partly because it was the last Potter film to come out before Rosie died and we were never able to see it together. At that point she would have never wanted to been seen in public... she had deteriorated that much. I even tried to rent an entire theater in Branson for a private screening just for us, but was unable to do so. So I bought the DVD when it came out and made a couple of attempts to watch it but could never get the whole way through... it was just too dark.

Last week I decided I needed to see the final films. I still didn't like Half Blood Prince, but made it all the way through. I realized I needed to see it before I viewed the final two. Tonight I viewed Deathly Hallows Parts 1 & 2. I thought Part 1 was an excellent film. Part 2 totally blew me away. One of the best films I have ever seen. It amazed me that the 8th film in a series could be the best when so many go downhill after the first. The story, locations and special effects were all outstanding. It gave a depth of understanding to the previous films that I never had before.

So Rosie... I know how it ends now. I know you did previously since you read all the books. Now I know too. I can see why you got through that final book in 48 hours after you bought it where you did other than read and sleep. I wish I could have watched those last two films with you.

    I love you.

There were parts of all three of those films that blew me away. And then there were parts (like Dobby's death) where I thought they should have been better. Very entertaining, no matter how faithful. Thanks for sharing.

RT, I recommend reading the books as well. There actually is a lot of humor in Half Blood Prince that didn't wake it into the movie.
