Hope you all got to say good-bye to the classic tombstones, because they won't be returning.

But what I hear the queue will be reconfigured, and the graveyard will be very, very different.

Also, WDWNT is saying the whole mansion is closing in Jan 2011 for a refurb...

... Isn't it a bit early to be adding Hatty? And there is no real reason to refurb, the HM looks great.

    Eh, not complaining.

    Yet.

The mansion has been perfect since then.

No real need to tamper with it.

However, so much else in the MK needs help. CoP...Tiki...Pan....SWSA....Space Mountain....

The "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality is the exact same reason the attractions you just mentioned are the way they are. The Haunted Mansion isn't perfect. And neither is the Carousel of Progress, Peter Pan's Flight, etc. WDW used to be a place where things were constantly maintained and updated. But if no one besides fanboys are complaining, why bother changing what's already there?

What? No. Years of neglect is that way. The only ones that could fit into if it ain't broke are Pan and Space because they draw a crowd.

    <<The Haunted Mansion isn't perfect.>>

It's the closest out of any attraction in WDW. Doesn't need a refurb.

<<And neither is the Carousel of Progress, Peter Pan's Flight, etc. >>

Exactly why they should get a refurb before Mansion.

Right, and maintaing those should come before refurbing HM. No one said it's perfect, but it's in very good condition compared to the others you listed.

If she does, I hope it's a better effect than the Potato Head AA in Midway Mania.

If the tests didn't go well (which is what I've heard from all accounts) I really wonder why they decided to push the idea forward. Yah, it's Disney's next cool hip-and-edgy push, but they tested it and it didn't work. I would think that instead of spending the money to completely redo the queue (since we all know how much they like saving a penny or two), they would run another test with the updated queue system before going through construction. This just seems like they're trying to push something far beyond what its limits should be, and against everything that logic and past operations have told them.

"...Isn't it a bit early to be adding Hatty?"

From my understanding, the Hat Box Ghost will be added to DL's Mansion at the same time, while they are removing the holiday overlay. It makes sense to do them both at the same time, but I still think it's a pretty pointless idea. Is the ride really going to be that much better with an updated effect that didn't work 40 years ago? For all they hype it's getting, I doubt it.

And I'm glad to see they don't give two craps about the living timeline that is Liberty Square.

Who cares about theming!? We've got interactivity!

As to trying to tie it in to DL's version, a friend did remark how odd it was that during MNSSHP they had a ghostly spirit (not me, a gal spirit) on the lawn playing with the guests and she was a Southern Belle ... not what you would generally expect in a Hudson River type locale.
