I don't really remember the original, other than my Dad would watch it. So I can't really compare how the characters are different from the original. I thought it did fine to introduce the characters and such. I imagine, like most shows, it will improve once the actors get used to their roles, and the writers get used to the characters.

I have to say that I was disappointed by the season finale and the cliffhanger for the next season. It seems to me to be stretching it too far for it being this early in the series. I hope they don't manage to prematurely jump the shark with what they've done, unless they manage to put things back together in the first episode of next season. The series is so new that they had several more seasons of normal plots and character development before they needed to really shake things up.

Originally Posted By dshyates I liked it also. I think that one reason I liked it, is it just looks so good. Hawaii makes pretty pictures. And have you noticed that almost all the action takes place during the day? That gives it a really bright and colorful visual tone. That is one thing that sets it apart from the "darker" cop dramas set in NY or LA. And I should add that the smokin' hot cast is a plus.

I appreciate that the reboot has been done with some love - the big, black Mercury that belonged to McGarrit's dad, for instance, was an icon in the old show, the fact that they've kept the original character names (right down to minor characters being named "Duke" and "Fong") and how they've even used a couple of actors from the original in cameo roles.

Also, I just noticed a couple of weeks ago that the license plate on McGarrett's truck is F6 3958, which is the same number that the black sedan had in the original series.

Whoever's in charge is obviously crafting the show with some love for the original. (as it should be!) I do wish they'd lose the blonde though. To me, she just doesn't fit in.
