I don't think I'm going to take my 5-year-old to see the movie, not because it is overly scary or has anything really offensive, but because I think most of it will go over his head and he probably would be fairly bored by much of it. This isn't really a criticism of the film, though. The writing deals very effectively and intelligently with some serious themes. It is a very good film that mixes some very effective comedy and good action sequences with some very moving and emotionally satisfying content. -Jeff

I think some of it would, but would still prove enjoyable for your child. However, it is rated PG, and I wondered why, until I saw it with a young child sitting behind me (probably 4 yrs) who was crying and freaked out during the scary parts. Then I thought, "Oh, that's why!"

When my youngest was 4 her favorite movie was "The Nightmare Before Christmas", her favorite rides were Haunted Mansion and Pirates. She would not have been scared. And there are several parts that small kids will really like. Some of the humor, while not at all risque or dirty, will be understood better by older kids and adults.
