Packages for the Sept 9th "Haunted Mansion 40th Anniversary" merchandise event at Disneyland went quickly earlier this week.

We are to be married on September 4, 2009 and will be spending our honeymoon in Disneyland.
Anyone else think this was a crappy way to sell tickets? Why not have a limit of 3 per person?

And if I wanted to meet those involve with the building of the ride back in the late 60s ... I bet the annual NFFC convention in July probably will probably turn up a few of those same individuals .. as they have in the past.

I've personally attended NFFC conventions both in July .. and the mini "semi annual" in January. And I have some great memories of specialty events of MANY Disney legends putting on a good talk, answer questions, and put on some sort of show .. maybe even a slide show ......... FAR before these type of events became fashionable via Paul Pressler and Cynthia Harris in the 90s.

So ... I would check with the NFFC .. and see if their theme this year may be the Haunted Mansion's 40th .. and see if the same legends popping up in September might attend the NFFC Convention in July.

Then I asked Disneyland if they were going to sell the same merchandise from the event at the park.. and they said that "whatever doesn't sell at the event..will come to the park".. Great! We all know most of the merchandise will sell out at the event! The good stuff anyway. Well, at least Olszewski announced that his "haunted mansion" light box will be an open edition..

Disney really blew it on this one.

Actually, the fact that all of the packages sold out in minutes would seem to indicate that if anything, they were dramatically UNDERpriced.

It included a night at the GCH, limousine transport from the hotel to New Orleans Square (after the park was closed of course), a cocktail reception there, and a multi-course dinner inside the Haunted Mansion. It cost a lot, but for a once-in-a-lifetime experience, it was worth every penny.

But my comment about the merchandise events being underpriced was not based on my personal experience: The fact that something of limited supply sells out almost instantly is evidence enough that the price is too low based on what supply and demand just showed you.

There are over 650,000 APers out there. Then there's the number of DL fans world-wide who are just as interested in DL as a local APer.

I've looked at the prices of these events since the days Paul and Cynthia (you know who) made them fashionable.

And of course there us fans who are into DL so much .. doesn't matter what the price is. If we got the careers with the cash, we'll justify the expense with no problem.

You make a good point. For me, it was the after-hours in-park event which was the key to the experience. The fact that there was "limited edition" merchandise was interesting, and I did buy a thing or two, but the whole notion of the thing being a "merchandise event" seemed odd to me. But at the time, I though they can call it anything they want if they want to put on such special events. It still surprises me that they don't have more special access events like this put on not by merch, but by some other department just for the sake of charging people extra money.
