What is happening this week is lay-offs that were announce about a month ago. People are being brought in and told their job no longer exists. They are being given severance and info about insurance, etc. This is happening to all level of job classifications. A friend was laid-off on Tuesday. He was in shock. He had no idea that it was coming. He was called in, told, cleaned out his desk and left.

That is probably true...I heard the other figures from a friend in the company. Though many of the people being laid-off now were not part of the buy out offering in January

Doesn't sound at all like," we're firing people left and right and don't care if some of our most caring CMs are completely blindsided when they show up for work to find out that they no longer have a job". I think when I have a colonoscopy I'll have a Disney exec explain the procedure to me so I won't know that I'm about to get violated. I'll think," hey, it's OK, I'm just having my backstage reorganized".

Mike Griffin, vice president of communications for Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, said today. "We are going forward with efficiencies." While back in Burbank... "I'm doing everything possible to grow my compensation from $30 million last year to $40 million this year." (While he might not have said this openly, I'm certain he at least admitted it to himself.) Even with the economy tanking, I'll be shocked if Iger's bonus for FY09 is less than last year's. Since taking over for Eisner in 2005, Iger's compensation has increased every year. The vast majority of American CEOs are overcompensated anyway, and Iger continues to outpace the overwhelming majority of them. With all of the bloodletting going on in Orlando now, along with the projects that have been delayed or put on indefinite hold, no one in Burbank should be getting compensation of this nature. Disney is going to have a mediocre year like every other company in this country. Time for the execs to start suffering along with the rest of us.

I am just at a total loss here ... What I find amazing is how even the Orlando Sentinel, which isn't exactly tough on Disney, stuck on the bottom of its story that these layoffs 'could be related to end of Disney's second quarter this weekend.' Gee ... do ya think? Numbers are gonna be bad. Iger and Rasulo need to look good to the 'Street' ... like they can make the tough decisions. It's such a joke. If everyone at corporate took a very small paycut, Disney wouldn't need to lay off one person in O-Town. Well, wait ... actually, they don't have to. I just said that, so I must be right. Yeah, again it's all for appearances. So you ruin so many peoples' lives, even if only for a while. This again shows just what a cutthroat operation The Mouse runs. ~What Will YOU Celebrate? Maybe Disney executives need to share some of that Pixie Dust, and Magic with the people that are really responsible for spreading it, their CM's. What will you celebrate Mr. Iger.

They don't have a clue how bad it is for so many. They don't realize that the one best thing they can do for their company is to KEEP workers, HIRE more and SPEND money. Or they can simply stick ads into the storylines of their soaps involving children dying of cancer and asking their parents to take them to WDW for SEVEN nights with parents saying they can only afford FOUR (do you see where this is going)? I'd was told by a friendly Spirit this happened a few days ago on ABC's One Life to Live and that it was 'forced into the script by someone VERY high.' I know people at ABC Daytime and am trying to find out exactly who the call came from (no, don't expect THAT to appear in either D23 or Tales). They are running scared and desperate and making stupid, kneejerk decisions because they truly only care about the next quarter. If they don't wake up and realize how bad things are and that the answer isn't cutting vital organs out then sure, they'll save the patient ... but it won't want to be one most of us want to spend a lot of time with. ~What Will YOU Celebrate?
