I know this is impolitic, but I think we're to the point where we can legitimately question the basic decency of someone who chooses to vote for Trump. It is so far beyond the normal binary, Dem vs. Rep, politics as usual thinking.
So Trump has issued a statement. Here's an excerpt. See if you can find the section that Trump actually wrote. "Captain Humayun Khan was a hero to our country and we should honor all who have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep our country safe. The real problem here are the radical Islamic terrorists who killed him, and the efforts of these radicals to enter our country to do us further harm. Given the state of the world today, we have to know everything about those looking to enter our country, and given the state of chaos in some of these countries, that is impossible. While I feel deeply for the loss of his son, Mr. Khan who has never met me, has no right to stand in front of millions of people and claim I have never read the Constitution, (which is false) and say many other inaccurate things. If I become President, I will make America safe again." Link: SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR DONALD TRUMP (their headline, not mine.)
Trump apparently doesn't know Russia already invaded Ukraine. ABC This Week, this morning: "STEPHANOPOULOS: Yeah, they took away the-- part of the platform calling for provision of lethal weapons to Ukraine to defend themselves. Why is that a good idea? TRUMP: It's-- look, you know, I have my own ideas. He's not going into Ukraine, okay, just so you understand. He's not gonna go into Ukraine, all right? You can mark it down. You can put it down. You can take it anywhere you want-- STEPHANOPOULOS: Well, he's already there, isn't he? TRUMP: Okay-- well, he's there in a certain way. But I'm not there. You have Obama there. And frankly, that whole part of the world is a mess under Obama with all the strength that you're talking about and all of the power of NATO and all of this. In the meantime, he's going away. He take-- takes Crimea. He's sort of, I mean--" 'This Week' Transcript: Donald Trump, Joe Biden, and Ret. Gen. John Allen
You really have to wonder why anyone in the military would support Trump. He disparages a POW and now the family of a fallen soldier. Can you imagine such things, even 4 years ago, being said by any candidate? Their campaign, and likely entire career, would be over. With three months to go, I wonder what outrageous tweet or remark we will be shaking our collective heads at by election day? And more and more, I'm wondering if he's going to find a way to dip out of the whole election if defeat looks certain. As they say in a bankrupt casino, "all bets are off."
Trump tries to vote in 2004. https://www.accesshollywood.com/videos/donald-trumps-election-day-disaster-a-look-back-2004/
Trump is actually more likeable in that 2004 clip. He's always seemed just this far from being a mobster. 'Hey, Joe this is Billy, he's a friend of mine."
Good heavens, it keeps getting worse! This from a Trump supporter's press release: "Like myself, Donald Trump is a life-long New Yorker. Donald Trump lives, works, eats and employs people of all races and religions." Source: DEAR AMERICA
My reaction to that is "Huh? Wait.. what? Who? But we were talking about… Um… That's redicu-- no, no, no, you don't undersea…HUH?"
I've been saying that forever, especially to the people I know (outside NY) who are inclined to believe him. It's really a very effective line, because it's simple to understand and you can sometimes even see the nagging sense of "yeah, that's probably true" dawning on them... I've never had to say it to anyone IN New York. Because we've all known he's full of feces for decades now. The other line I like to say is "Trump talks a good game. Of course he does. Con men always talk a good game. By definition." If they're still listening, I say "So don't just listen to what a con man says. Look at what he's actually done. For his whole career. He couldn't care less about the average guy. Look at what he's done to average guys his whole life after he's gotten what he wants from them. He throws them out like Kleenex. What he wants from you right now is your vote. Once he's got that - you're Kleenex to him."
You can tell the difference between Trump's tweets vs. his staff's tweets by whether the tweet is specifically talking about Trump. Also by whether it's from an Android (Trump) or an iPhone (staff). With only a couple spectacular exceptions. This article WOULD be funny if it were fiction: Check Out This Weird Theory About Trump's Twitter We Found
The new reset button is "I WAS BEING SARCASTIC!" LOL, you cannot make this stuff up. The Onion might as well be the New York Times at this point. If Trump wins, SNL is cancelled and NBC just runs the week's presidential footage.
