I asked why we needed to do this and I was told incase there was a fire they wanted to be able to account for everyone.

I carry a big purse for everyone's "Mom can you put this in your purse for me" things-and they barely glance into it. What a utter waste of time.

I would be more comfortable if they at LEAST had a walk through metal detector!

We really noticed the extra attention to everyone passing thru security.

So he decided to put a magazine at the top of his bag, so when the bag checker opened it up, they were looking directly at it. They let him in with it and didn't even ask what it was.

There is an older man at the GC gate who searches EVERYTHING and always has. We call him Maxwell Smart. I cringe when I see him there because I know the procedure with him. On the other hand he's probably doing what they were taught after 9/11.

For me it's been haphazard whether it's a cursary (sp) look or a may I see inside that compartment look. On the other hand it still amazes me that DH and other guys cargo pockets are bluging with stuff and never are asked about them. DH always has a diet coke bottle in one pocket, his cell phone in one and his wallet, camera in another. Once at the Monorail Station in DTD a CM asked to see the cell phone.

Last time we were there was about a month ago and from velo's post it looks like they are getting more serious.

We were all pretty thorough with our checks, and I even found one guy who had a metal hip! That made the day interesting.

But the most fun was, since I had to check everybody, I even would scan infants and toddlers. You'd think it's silly to do so, but 1) yes, terrorists will use toddlers if they see a security loophole, and 2) it was just so darned cute to see the kids' reactions to them. I had fun with that, even making a game out of it for them.

IMHO, there is a difference between invisible, and nonexistent.

The bag check is an example of nonexistent security-it does nothing, prevents nothing-it is not a form of "invisible security". That would imply that it accomplished something.

    It does not.

I just happened to not have chosen to do anything with it the dozens of other times I have entered before and after that with it. And they knew that. Boy they are good.
