We stayed at Carousel a few years ago and had a very nice family suites. Just shop around and find the deals. Have a great time in Dland.

Here's the thing: I'm one of those in the minority that thinks springing for a Disney hotel is totally worth it. You will spend more, and if it's not worth it to you, then it's not worth it to you. But for me, the short walk through DtD is a pleasant part of my vacation. Even if it means saving for a couple more months just to stay on-site, I prefer that.

If you're not up for that, I'd recommend checking the closest hotels on Harbor.

Just to sleep at night and a nap during the day for the little ones. We have done the shuttle thing as well and hate waiting for it. We love being able to just walk across the street to our hotel. I think it is even a closer walk than the Disneyland Hotel or Paradise Pier. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me. :)

We got a room last year with two queens and two bunk beds, so our family of six fit in one room. It was a little cramped, but we didn't spend a lot of time there and it saved us a bunch of money, so that is an option if you want to save.
