I've never been able to get over that and it to me, it truly forever changed the ride. So all this talk of change and additions? BRING IT ON! I'd much rather see a much more exciting, brand new, Johnny-Depp laden overlay, then the painful reminder of present-day “Disney afraid of people being offended†version they have now. Rotting skeletons? Myst projectors? The Black Pearl boat? MORE then 3 BRAND-NEW FULL animatronics? A new sound system? You guys are seriously not all drooling like the fellow Disney nerds you are?! Are you all dead? Do you know how cool this could possibly turn out? Do you realize how much respect WDI has for Pirates, how they waited and begged for the over 50 MILLION dollars this 'refurb' costs?! This is the coolest news I’ve heard in the last five years for Disneyland. If they do it right, it’s going to bring an old classic into a new generation’s hearts. Which is EXACTLY what Walt would’ve wanted to df COURSE I love the classic ride. Of COURSE. But do you know how many times I've seen young kids on the thing practically falling asleep, wanting to get off? Want to ride the old Pirates we currently have at Disneyland? Fine! Here's a plan for you: ride it every day from now until it closes forever next year to be updated, then after that, go to Tokyo and ride the nearly exact clone of the California version located right now in Tokyo Disneyland. You may be amazed to find out, not only is Tokyo’s almost exactly like ours (minus about two minutes of dark cave sailing) it’s also not dumbed-down. They have the women chasing pirates scene, and GASP, all their animatronics (down to every single last chicken) looks like the ride just opened. It’s spectacular. Heck, I’ve heard Paris’ is even snazzier, albeit different, with sword fighting and all. So, there you have it. Your cake and eat it too. We will have 4 distinctly different versions of Pirates, and in 2008, possibly a 5th, even more radically different one, in Hong Kong. But I’m willing to bet that Disneyland’s, if it turns out anything like what Al says, and what I've personally heard, will still be the "pirates of envy" for all the other parks. WDI wouldn’t have it any other way, believe me.

POTC is my favorite movie, and my favorite ride, i just hope they dont combine the two as they dont have a whole heck of a lot in common, if you think about it. i wish they would just update the AA's and take out the PC changes.

I'm sick and tired of hearing how great the attractions are at the other parks compared to DIsneyland, but we have the best atmosphere and charm. Lets balance that out and get some upadated attractions..

As always, I try to save finaljudgement until after I've seen the completed product but I think some cool things could come out of this.

Originally Posted By Jim in Merced CA <Not to mention MORE AAs were added that actually FIT IN.> Actually, the 'World of Motion' AA figures don't really fit in very well at all. Especially the guys pulling the treasure up the lift hill. The original pirates have a sort of caricature type of face -- sort of hightened realism. The guys pulling and grunting, don't look like they're in the same family of characters.

And since he was gone before it opened, no one can be certain he wouldn't have been tinkering with it right up to the moment it opened and then beyond that. Change is a part of life and an intelligent thing for a theme park to consider when done well and with heart. I like and trust Matt Ouimet's apparent vision of the resort as a show rather than the Presslerized vision of "mega mall" (my opinion). There are technologies available now that could not have even been imagined 10even 20 years ago. I think, handled right, they could make Pirate as awesome to future generations as it was to the very first guests who experienced it. And in my opinion that would sit well with Walt. But since he isn't here, we have to give the current visionaries a shot at glory too.

Smells of marketing to me, unless, of course, they're trying to farther distance themselves from the sex issue. I say, bring back the wenches! And bring back the Peoplemover! These people, whoever they are, should stop trying to fix things that aren't broken, and do something original, without, of course, tearing apart what's classic. The land is there; they just have to figure out where it is. What's missing, of course, is leadership. If Walt did nothing else, he always surprised us; these people seem intent on doing the opposite. Booooooooriiiiiiiing!

Tell you what, go find someone who hasn't seen any of the Indiana Jones films, ask them to ride Indy, and get back to me. For the record, I have never seen Song Of The South, and I like Splash Mountain.

Neither had I till just a couple of months ago and I think I’ll enjoy it more now that I’ve seen the movie but I like POTC the way it was before the movie. Not to Pooh, Pooh but I’m scared they’ll Nemo it or worse.

He never saw it in its final state. Also, he never stated that any of the attractions he saw to completion should stay as they are forever. He was obsessed with change and improvement. I know it's pointless to speculate but were he alive today I highly doubt POTC would even exist at all. Change is a good thing. If nothing else it reminds us of the good things of the past.
