This is one of the many, many reasons I do not like the MK and feel it the worst Disney park I have been to. it is not done like that in DL or DLP!

For the most part, I don't think many people get upset about it, since DL is so close (a whopping 30 second walk), and almost everybody there will be able to go to both parks (because there are almost no single park tickets sold for DCA), so they just spend the rest of their evening in DL. This is how is used to be done in WDW, but they changed it a couple years back, for some unknown reason. I guess this way, they can claim they are allowing people more time in the park, and they don't have to leave and reenter if they're staying for the party, it just seems a little less graceful when getting people out of the park. Instead of making everybody leave, some people get to stay. If you want to stay, you can pay more and stay, but it will cost you about the same price as a full day's admission. Also, the people going to the party start getting let in around 4:00, so they have almost a full day in the park by the time they are done, making the special event a little less special.

That's how they do it at DL and even DLP (with the exception of the Halloween Soiree where they close the park at 7:30 and reopen at 8:30 - 2 nights a year). That's my beef. We were at WDW for nearly 2 weeks and had 4 opportunities to see Wishes. However, because we had to make our ADRs so far in advance, we only had 2 slots (Christmas parade filming day while Pop Warner was on - heaving mess) and the other was a little more civilised. But what about the folks that only go for a few days. They are forced to pony up extra to see the fireworks! I don't mind paying for quality. But it just feel so mercenary when you can go to DL, DLP, TDL and HKDL and get special shows for the cost of your admission without teiring the guests.
