If you're terrified, who else are you supposed to call for help? Besides, you are supposed to call the police for help when a situation is escalating...even if you aren't completely terrified. It's the smart, safe thing to do. I find it funny that men are the ones who are acting like a 12 year old might not be scary. Women often perceive dangerous situations a bit differently.
