"I don't want to be partisan at a time like this, but this is why the Republicans are going to be out of business," Dean said, pointing to the destruction around him. "Nine months after the hurricane, to have this? This is ridiculous. This is not the America we grew up in."

When asked if he thought Americans had moved beyond Katrina and may forget about the storm by the time the November elections rolled around, Dean replied, "This is a searing, burning issue, and I think it is going to cost George Bush his legacy and it's going to cost the Republicans the House and the Senate and maybe the presidency in the next election. People will never forget this."

Why on earth would they? Katrina represents one of the greatest failures of the bush administration, and revealed incompetence and cronyism at the highest levels of our government. You think maybe they're just going to let it pass?

The howard dean quote above must be about three months old because the one year anniversary of katrina is coming up this week, and it's hipper than ever before. TV is chock full of 'one year later' documentaries that highlight just how little has gotten accomplished in the interim.

You better believe that the opposition party is going to hang this around bush's neck and shine spotlights on it - as it should be. Katrina was arguably the worst national disaster to ever hit this country. Reminding people that chertoff and brown were saying "we just heard about this today" three full days after the hurricane struck is a necessary thing.

Bush himself will be there next week for yet another of his by now countless photo ops, and to try and spin the coverage in his favor - or at least counteract the rehashing of the gross incompetence that worsened an already terrible tragedy.

So go ahead neo-cons, wail about how it's all so unfair. It doesn't matter - you lose.

<<<On the verge of Katrina's one-year anniversary, Democrats from New Orleans to New Haven, Conn., to New York are launching a coordinated political assault on the Bush administration's response to the devastation that struck the Gulf Coast.

Democratic lawmakers began arriving in the stricken region Thursday, making a stand that will culminate Monday when about 20 House Democrats convene in Bay St. Louis, Miss., for a town hall meeting. Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana plans to deliver the Democratic response to President Bush's Saturday radio address.

Bush and his fellow Republicans aren't the only ones being pushed onto the defensive. In Connecticut, Democratic Senate candidate Ned Lamont used the Katrina anniversary to criticize Sen. Joe Lieberman, the incumbent Democrat who is running as an independent, for being one of the lead architects in the creation of the Homeland Security Department.>>>

Katrina, Greenberg said, "emboldens Democrats to push back in a way that they did not in 2002 and in 2004."

Katrina especially angered black Americans, a core bloc in the Democratic coalition. The AP-Ipsos poll found that only 17 percent of minorities approve of Bush's handling of Katrina.

"Katrina ended any effective ability by Republicans to appeal to African-Americans," Dean said.>>>

Democrats need to stop blaming the world for their failures and grow up. Don't expect it to happen though. Anyone who is dumb enough to be a liberal after all it's failures is not going to be able to step up and take responsility to run anything. Yet these people think they should run the entire country?

    It's why they lose.

No hurricanes since the season began June 1. (Guess it must be all those electric cars the Democrats drive...)

Coordinated assault? As long as Ray Nagin is around, the focus, alas, will be somewhat diffused. "You guys in New York can't get a hole in the ground fixed, and it's five years later." Great sound bite.

    More "coordination:"

I don't think it's a personal attack to point out the irony that you've started no less than 3 Hurricane Katrina threads in 10 days and then turn around and talk about how liberals and Democrats won't drop it.

Bush is keeping us safe from the hurricanes. It's been almost a year since we've been hit. His emergency management plans are working beautifully - as long as their aren't any hurricanes.
