If he doesn't want bad things to be written about him then maybe he should try to be a better boss. He's a drunk, has his own clique (if you don't drink or play poker with him then you don't count) and causes nepotism. Basically they were trying to take away my first amendment rights and what I could say in my own home, off work time. Steve didn't say I shouldn't retract it, but my supervisor (Trudy) did. What he did say (in a nutshell) was my work life would be pretty miserable if I stayed. So I guess you can say he threatened me. I don't care. He doesn't matter. So we would appreciate thoughts and prayers while I look for a new job. I have never done anything this drastic before. I guess I was just pushed too hard and it was my only way out.

My former company (AAA) fired a mass amount of people, including the general manager of my call center because of things that were posted on MySpace about the job and people who worked there. Some of them tried to sue but I guess the Autoclub was within their rights because the lawsuits never even got off the ground. Good luck in your job search. We are all rooting for you!

If your former place of employment would have been a better place, then there would have been no need to trash them online or any place else. I'm sure those near and dear to you have heard the details, too, as well as the clerk at your store, the drycleaner, etc. Why would a company want bad publicity by treating an employee wrong? Wouldn't you rather try to fix the situation instead of telling an employee to NOT post such things? And then again, can we trash our employers online without suffering? I think we have the right to, but we must also choose why we say what we say. From the company point of view, I'd be very upset if an employee of mine trashed me and you better believe I'd look into it. Obviously, something is askew for an employee to take the time and write up about a work situation. And I think maybe there are times when we have to get up and leave immediately for self-preservation. And I think maybe there are times when we have to grin and bear it and find another job and give two-weeks' notice and leave. Only the person on the spot can be the judge of which avenue to take. And good call, Fodd! As usual, the voice of reason assists!!!

Lots of people have one user name for serious stuff and another for goofing off. Just make sure not to let employers find the goofing-off one. (Not something I practice myself, I'm afraid.)
