I've been having a hard time believing the columns from Miceage this year - regarding Monsters Inc, and Star Wars. Now ... "The so called CONFIRMED news from earlier this year - is now OFFICIALLY CANCELED." How convenient for Miceage.

I've just read through some comments beneath the article and there are indeed some critics.

By the way: It's been a long time, since I've seen you here.

At times, it was several months between updates, since he had no news to report. It seems that the current author(s?) is more interested in making a regular gossip column that's designed to create a big reaction from people. Given the writing style and hyper-defensive comments in the comment section, I suspect it's the same writing team behind their In The Parks column that runs on Fridays, which also makes very opinionated statements that they try to convey as fact, and focus on small details that most guests (even the internet nerds) don't care about or don't agree with (they're very pro-Duffy for example; most people just don't care about him). >>I find the updates entertaining to read sometimes and occasionally their more modest predictions end up being spot on (ie: the return of Captain Eo), which is probably why they continue to have a following.<< They were also the first ones to report on the Jingle Cruise overlay. Again, nothing major, and it wasn't announced very long before the official announcement (or even when the overlay happened), but they did get that one right. The bigger things that they've announced in the last 6-12 months, however, all seem like they're rapidly falling apart >>Judging from comments on Micechat and WDWMagic, most people believe the story.<< From what I've seen, most of the people who have bought into the recent updates are those who really wanted to see a specific project happen. Now that their preferred project is cancelled, they're buying into the reasoning behind it. The group who was skeptical about the new projects, or would have rather seen something else in those locations, is the one that is starting to call shenannigans on the whole series of rumor articles
Originally Posted By Dabob2 <So that means we should take the articles with a grain of salt?> You should take articles on any such site with several grains of salt. MiceAge got something of an inflated reputation (and avid followers) when Al Lutz was running it because he himself had avid acolytes (and avid detractors); obscuring the fact that sometimes he got things right, and sometimes he got things wrong (much like other such sites.) Whenever he got it right the Al acolytes trumpeted it to the sky; whenever he got it wrong, the detractors would do so - it was all kind of weird. There was a period in there where the right to wrong ratio increased; probably not because of anything Al/Miceage did, but because whoever was feeding them information had better information to feed. Now the ratio seems to be declining. But even when it was better, it was never 100%. The debate was why. Was some of the info good at the time it was fed, and then Disney changed their plans? Certainly this happens (and I guess it's what MiceAge is claiming in this recent case). Was the info they were fed a case of their source wanting to float his/her pet project to see what the fan community would say about it, perhaps hoping for a positive reaction that could sway his bosses? Possibly. Did some overlord at Disney intentionally feed a bad rumor hoping to see where leaks were coming from? Who knows. Some of the theories got very cloak and dagger - you'd think we were talking Wikileaks or something. Bottom line: no such site should be taken without a grain or three of salt.

It's the conspiracy theories, and the "plans got changed, therefore MICEAGE ARE LIARS!" thing that I find hilarious. It's a rumor site. You get what you get. (Memo to Miceage: Your credibility would be helped a LOT if we knew who was writing the articles.)

Back to the topic: I didn't read the udpated Mice Age article, but I do remember from our last discussion that this rumor for Monstropolis came along as the test ballons were raised in that area. Could 'something' still be in the works, just not the extreme that was orginally thought? I would love to have 'something' in that area as it is such a waste of space. As much as I enjoy standing in line for my free Disney Visa photo voucher right next to the smokers, I really think that space could be more...
