I think they probably should put something there (I've never been on it, but I've heard that it's quite a pause while you're sitting there), but that bird really did look pretty tacky.

Unfortunately, it needs something else here, I'm not sure what. Perhaps some effects that somehow make it feel like the yeti is creeping up on you literally breathing down your neck. That would certainly add something interesting up there. Maybe some fog too, since that would help cool you down, and just add to the overall look of the area.
