I have never been there but the more I look at it i'm not sure it will be as exciting as WDW. If anyone else has been to both parks please let me know which one I should pick. I have 2 children my son is 9 my daughter is 3. I would stay at Disneyland hotel at Disneyland or at WDW the Villas at Wilderness lodge. I have never been to California so I know I would want to see some of the other sites as well. I look foward to your feedback. Oh yeah we are going for my son's birthday in June. Thanks.

The facilities there are World Class...their DTD is gorgeous and DCA, while not too popular with many local fans, it's a fun park with some familiar adventures in new surroundings. The differences alone between DL and WDW are thoroughtly enjoyable.
While there is much more to do at WDW.. if there was ever a time to go visit DLR...IT IS NOW!! Don't let the *real* Happiest celebration on Earth pass you buy!!! Go to DL and enjoy! You'll have a blast!!!

If you want to venture out a few hours from the LA area, there is Carlsbad(Legoland) and San Diego (Sea World, Wild Animal Park and the world famous San Diego Zoo).

I am a DVC member myself, 5 kids, one on the way, oldest is ten years, youngest is 18 months. I've been to WDW...lost count around 25 visits since 1998, and no I don't live in Florida.
Took my whole fam-damily to DL and DCA five times since 1998.

    Here is what we do:

We fly to CA, Orange County (John Wayne Airport) RENT A VEHICLE, and go to one of the DL Hotels. (Your vacation club points will not go as far as they do at WDW but hey, who lives in their room anyway.)

First full day one we spend at DL.
DL IS...IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING OR CARE ANYTHING ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THINGS...unique in that, you truly walk where Walt walked, you see things like The Matterhorn, Alice in Wonderland, and many things that really aren't duplicated in the WDW MK.

Second Full day we spend in DCA with the evening in Downtown Disney.

Third day we DRIVE over to Universal Hollywood which is agian very different from Universal Orlando and Islands of delapidated adventure and what not.

Fourth day, we DRIVE down to Lego Land which your kids will LOVE beyond all reason while you struggle to figure out WHY they do. It's a great park but well, it is what it is. You really should go there atleast once.

Fifth day, we DRIVE all the way down to the San Diego Zoo, spend a half day there and hustle over to Sea World and take a red eye drive back to our home base at DL.

Sixth day, we split time between DL and DCA and wish we had had more time.

It is an awesome, awesome, awesome time.

But take my advice, and I know I will get heat for this comment, but...

Don't even think about wasting any time going to Knotts Berry Farm. Its great for what it is, but your kids will like the other places far more IMHO.

So, you've done WDW, step out, go to DL it is the bomb! And like I said, I am a WDW loyalist, so I am shooting you straight here. You are missing out if you fail to go to DL. That's the place Walt built.

HEY HEY!!! Some one call the TSA!! This man is a terrorist!! :p

I too agree about Knott's.. Not worth it. Even Magic Mountain is not all that anymore. Too many gang members up there in that park, reason why they have metal detectors at the entrance.
