I want to see, here at home, a really good old fashioned horror film...Something recent but available on DVD...Something that would really blow my socks off...On my short list is the Stephen King bit "The Mist"...After that my mind sort of goes blank...What was the "Twenty nine days of darkness"? I know I have that title wrong but still you get the idea I hope...I have seen all of the classics so I am looking for something new that is available on DVD...Please help me out with some suggestions...The more suspense type of thing the better...A really good scare would be fun right now....

Have you seen The Grudge? I watched that one late at night home alone and got a serious case of the heebie jeebies.

No big deal...I think I am the only person in the world that got a thrill out of Cujo...I am trying my hardest to think of something I saw recently that I really liked and I simply cannot...I think the last horror film I saw in a theater was Halloween H2O and I thought it was kind of fun the way it was handled...I did see the remake of the original and thought it was the worst waste of time...Another one from a few years ago was Wrong Turn....I noticed the other day there is a sequel that must not have made it to the theaters...So I don't have a lot of faith in that one...I guess for the last couple of years one of my favorites would be the Saw series...They have managed to keep the whole series interesting to me since they all tie together in some shape or fashion...I really need to sit down and watch the original film again...I think there are some things in it that I missed but then again I might be imagining such...I konw people that refuse to watch the original Saw film because they think it is going to be an out gross attack...I found it to be anything but...I thought it was very cleverly put together and they had me fooled to the very end.....I am in it for what I call the "heart attack"...You know, in the last moment of Carrie when the hand comes up that you aren't expecting...Those are the type scares I want to see...So what is on your list?

You have some great choices listed there. I would add a couple:
Cube - It was different and appealed to the geek in me.
28 Days Later - ZOMBIES SHOULD NOT RUN! Broke all the rules. Freaked.me.out. I thought since I lived in a multi-story house I was safe from the coming Zombie Invasion but I guess I have to rethink all that now.
Carnival of the Souls - Oldie but goodie if you can get past the soundtrack.
REC - Blair Witch-ish in the sense of the filming. But different. It's about a news show that profiles a night in a fire station and what happens when they go on a call.
Evil Dead - was fabulous! I became a diehard Bruce Campbell fan because of that movie.
Solaris - the Russian version. I don't know why but I really liked that one. It's long but worth it. It had enough scifi to keep me happy and enough mystery. Not sure what else but it caught me in the whole "what's going on?"-ness of it.

I'm sure there are a ton more that I would "Yeah yeah! that one too!" but I can't seem to think of them right now. I have "Olympics on the Brain" at the moment. How many days left again?? ha

Kennect: One you might want to check out is William Friedkin's "Bug." Just don't read up too much about it before you watch it. I went into it almost totally cold -- knowing only that it was based on a stage play -- and it was surprisingly good.

You could also check out the "Masters of Horror" series. Every episode -- a mini-movie in and of itself -- is available on DVD separately. Here are the episode guides:

    <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0448190/episodes#season-1" target="_blank">http://www.imdb.com/title/tt04...season-1</a>
    <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0448190/episodes#season-2" target="_blank">http://www.imdb.com/title/tt04...season-2</a>

    My favorites:
    "Dreams in the Witch-House"
    "Homecoming"
    "Sounds Like"
    "Pro-Life"
    "Pelts"
    "The Screwfly Solution"
    "The Black Cat"
    "Dream Cruise"
